Basic Function: Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, provides a continuum of vocational rehabilitation services to handicapped and/or disabled individuals designed to assist in the accomplishment of vocational goals.
Reports To: Program Coordinator
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides direct vocational rehabilitation services for assigned client caseload.
- Provides systematic counseling focusing on the realities of the work world and developing client’s social, emotional and intellectual capacities to meet the demands of employment.
- Helps clients to set and attain realistic rehabilitation, employment, personal, and social goals. Works closely with parents and other involved parties in formulating and implementing goals.
- Utilizes medical, psychological, vocational evaluation and other pertinent recommendations as tools in development of a formal vocational rehabilitation plan.
- Develops vocational rehabilitation plans and vocational objectives for each assigned client, subject to supervisor’s approval.
- Implements and monitors specific programs and services in an effort to reach the mutual goals and objectives of the rehabilitation plan.
- Assigns clients to appropriate work and training activities, observes client’s performance and behavior, and monitors progress towards rehabilitation goals.
- Writes progress reports, staffing summaries, and other pertinent reports as required; assists in preparation of quarterly management reports.
- Reports progress on caseload to supervisor and maintains accurate and timely client records that are required by the agency and accrediting bodies.
- Maintains current knowledge of governmental and accrediting body standards; keeps abreast of issues and trends in the field through in service training.
- * Orients new clients, coordinates staffing, contacts other social services agencies, makes referrals, secures needed services, and obtains case related information.

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructional materials, operating instructions, books, catalogues, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in an office or classroom environment.
Job Requirements:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, guidance and counseling, psychology or social work, including one year’s experience in rehabilitation services.
