Job Description
THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $344.26 PER DAY.
The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) is responsible for oversight and management of secure and non-secure detention services for juveniles (e.g., youth) awaiting disposition in family, criminal, and supreme courts. The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Painter at the Crossroads Juvenile Center.
Under general supervision, the Painter will be responsible for performing the following duties but not limited to:
- Communicate with clients to determine their painting requirements and helping them make the best decisions for their projects.
- Assemble scaffolding as required.
- Cover trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint.
- Set up ventilators and other safety equipment to protect Painters from unhealthy fumes.
- Prepare surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they’re smooth.
- Apply primer and other sealers to paint surfaces.
- Mix and match paint, stain and other finishes to job specifications.
- Apply paint, stain and other finishes to paint surfaces using paintbrushes, rollers or sprayers.
- Maintain an inventory of all supplies including paint brushes, rollers and tarps.
- Remove old finish using scrapers, chemical compounds or blowtorches.
- Estimate time and material costs on painting projects.
- Clean machines, equipment and work areas using water, solvents and other cleaning aids.
- Review and implement work orders and assignments.
- Remove and reinstall fixtures (e.g., doorknobs, electric switch covers) as necessary.
- Collaborate with Programming team to demonstrate techniques to youth in Detention interested in field of painting.
Note, this position may require occasional travel to the Horizon Juvenile Center in the Bronx.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
