SUPERVISOR OF SCHOOL NUTRITION SERVICES (SBO) (#368)

Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Administration, the Supervisor of Nutrition Services is responsible for administering and directing an efficient nutrition services program that delivers delicious and nutritious meals meeting USDA Child Nutrition Program guidelines to Frederick County Public School students. The District enrolls approximately 14,000 students in 12 elementary schools, four middle schools and three high schools as well as two additional centers. Each school operates its own kitchen and school cafeteria.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, with academic major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field.
• State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors as outlined in the USDA Hiring Standards for school nutrition program directors, or ability to become certified within three (3) years of employment. (Candidates without this certification must become certified within three (3) years for continued employment.)
• Five (5) – seven (7) years of Food Service experience, including supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of food service management (cooking, ordering, storing, inventory, menu planning, personnel management and sanitation).
• Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program as well as State, local and Federal regulations regarding school nutrition, meal application guidance, financial regulations; Federal, state, and local procurement regulations, Health Dept regulations.
• Skilled in managing and reporting from databases, creating spreadsheets, and using computer software and applications to support work. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software application.
• Prior experience as a School Nutrition Supervisor preferred.
• ServSafe certified, or ability to become certified within three months of hire.
• Experience in a school setting preferred.
• Communicate with tact, courtesy, diplomacy to parents, vendors, students, staff, contractors, and administration and to work collaboratively with various school community members to include, parents, students, and staff.
• Deliver highly effective verbal (in-person and telephone) and written communication and customer service, even in highly stressful situations.
• Maintain attention to detail and have the capacity to meet frequent and hard deadlines while ensuring accuracy.
• Manage in a complex, highly regulated, and fast paced environment.
• Interview, select, train, counsel, lead, and empower staff.
• Perform math computations to budget, procure, analyse and prepare financial reports, analyze data and prepare marketing plans.
• Plan and project staffing needs.

Pay Rate:

The salary range is $84,375-$139,144

Contract:
Full time / 12 months / 245 days
