VP, Field Operations
At Advance Auto Parts, a Vice President of Operations (VPO) is a senior leader in the Region. The VPO must be knowledgeable of all facets of operating multiple (150-200) Advance Auto Parts stores. Each Vice President must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our customers succeed, and growing the business and profitability with integrity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with Area HR Director and Managers, Retail Store Management Recruiter(s) and Trainer(s), Asset Protection Manager, etc., to set and execute the company’s key strategies in the Region
- Partner with RVP and SVP of Operations, SVPs of Operations Support and Store Support Team to continuously improve operational procedures/processes, share best practices, and create new, innovative ways to meet strategic objectives
- Develop annual plans and maintain at least a one-year outlook on sales growth, budgets and forecasts, business trends, new store site selection and openings, and bench strength
- Build and maintain a high standard of customer service that creates superior customer experiences and loyalty; coach District Leaders in a way that is inspirational, improves results and produces high levels of customer service
- Maintain constant focus on building high performing teams through a culture of training and development for internal Team Members, aggressive acquisition of outside talent, and low turnover
- Ensure management team values diversity and supports a fair and respectful environment for both Team Members and customers; including high performance, recognition, candid feedback and rewards for performance exists on their team
- Spend 50-60% of the time visiting assigned districts and stores to ensure proper execution of all initiatives, consistent or better store conditions, and understanding of customer service expectations by all Team Members; visit competitors in all classes of trade to evaluate their best practices as applicable
- Demonstrate an eagerness to be a team player and assist in other functions as assigned by Area leaders and upper management
Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a Vice President
- Speak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper management
- Strong presentation and communications skills, including ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Hyperion and other computer-based tools
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including creation of budgets and P&L management and analysis; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations including graphing and the interpretation of mathematical modeling
- Knowledge of retail management best practices including sales, customer service, inventory management, risk reduction and Human Resources skills
- Think strategically, analyze issues and options; effectively manage and facilitate change
- Effectively delegate and supervise multiple projects throughout the Region to ensure timely and quality execution
- Ability to work an assortment of days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the Region and organization on a weekly basis with extensive overnight stays
Prior Experiences that Set a Vice President up for Success
- 5-10 years multi-unit management experience in a fast-paced and highly dynamic retail environment
- Proven track record in meeting sales and gross margin targets in a multi-unit environment
- Successful experience managing profitability; proven financial and business acumen
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must have a valid driver's license
- ASE certification preferred, but not required
