Responsibilities
The CNA/Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for the observation and monitoring of patients in treatment and reporting duties as indicated. The Behavioral Health Technician I has basic knowledge of substance abuse and/or mental health treatment and will assist patients in a variety of patient activities to include gaining group process skills and assisting patient to gain insight.
Core Job Duties:
- Demonstrate ability to perform the following competencies:
- Vitals
- Urine Analysis Collection
- Point of Care UDS
- Intoximeter/Breathalyzer
- Property Search
- Pulse Oximeter
- Client Photographs (external camera and uploading into EMR)
- Handling Biohazard Waste
- Handwashing
- Be sure that patient assignments and responsibilities are understood and in progress
- Observe and document the patient’s progress accurately
- Assist patients in gaining group process skills
- Address problem behaviors
- Create atmosphere in which self-disclosure is encouraged
- Adhere to time schedules
- Assist patients gain insight into problems
- Give patient a clear picture of where she stands with regard to progress toward recovery
- Enforce program rules and regulations in a firm but fair manner
- Confront counter-productive behavior appropriately
- Bond with patients and elicit respect
- Adapt to different types of patients
- Assist nurses in taking vital signs & document in patient’s record. Notify nurse of any abnormalities
- Assist patient in managing outside stressors (legal, financial, vocational, etc.) according to the best interests of the patient’s progress in recovery as directed
- Communicate with supervisor and keep supervisor informed of significant case developments
- Identify patient strengths and weaknesses
- Maintain healthy boundaries
- Maintain regular contact and open communication with families as needed
- Demonstrate good strategic and problem-solving skills
- Ensure that documentation is timely, consistent, clear and articulate
- Accept and utilize supervision
- Address problems noted by supervisor
- Demonstrate willingness to accept responsibility
- Pursue professional development through participation in education and training programs
- Function well as a team member and contribute positively to the morale of staff
- Maintain good communication
- Reporting any concerns to immediate supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

- High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred enrolled in college or training for nursing, social work, psychology, or a related degree
Adult Facilities: prefer experience working with adults
Children and Adolescent Facilities: prefer experience working with children and adolescents
CPR Certification
Standard First Aid Certification
