Major Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support/Health Outcomes: Provides support in the delivery of quality clinical care
- 1)Prepares for patient visit by performing chart preparation. Manages patient flow, including preparing rooms, patients in accordance with Advocate Medical Group (AMG) policies and procedures and rooming standards.
- 2)Performs tests/procedures as ordered. Maintains test tracking log, communicating test results per policy. Identifies and communicates abnormal or delayed test results to provider.
- 3)Responsible for accurate specimen collection including patient identification and labeling based on laboratory collection procedures. Accurately performs and maintains practice site quality control logs in accordance with standards for maintaining CLIA certification.
- 4)Administers medications as ordered by provider including documentation. Communicates with pharmacies to refill medication per approved protocol.
- 5)Anticipates the need for and completes all documentation necessary to ensure quality care including chief complaint, vital signs, immunizations/medications, history, procedures and messages.
- 6)Distributes patient education and discharge instructions per provider direction. Direct patient questions regarding education to provider.
- 7)Assists patients in obtaining additional services ordered by the physician prior to leaving the office as part of discharge planning. Communicates with other providers to ensure continuity of care.
- 8)Documents all patient communication in the medical record.
- 9)Supports achieving AMG Clinical Integration goals by medical record preparation, i.e. assures appropriate flow sheets and charts are available at time of patient visit. Accurate data is obtained and documented. Assists the physician in maintaining registries. Communicates to provider any outstanding data, tests or measures required for Clinical Integration.
- Patient Satisfaction and Service: Provides efficient, high-quality service to patients and families during appointments/visits, telephone call.
- 5)Demonstrates a professional image in compliance with AMG policy.

- Health Information Management (HIM) and HIPAA standards: A complete and accurate medical record will be maintained for every patient who is evaluated or treated within the medical group.
- 6)Maintains medical record filing by scanning or re-filing of charts.
- 7)Utilizes Advocate/AMG forms.
- 1)Participates in medical record audits and indicator development
- 2)Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of patient care and in communication in person and via the telephone.
- 3)Assures that the medical record and all relevant diagnostic reports are available at the start of the visit.
- 4)Obtains medical record release of information in accordance with HIPAA policy and Advocate/AMG policies and procedures.
- 5)Disposes of papers containing patient identifiable information according to policy.
- Risk/Safety Compliance
- 1)Complies with established infection control, OSHA safety standards and accrediting organization regulations.
- 2)Maintains work area in accordance with the Advocate/AMG Operating System standards.
- 3)Participates in safety drills. Locates emergency equipment during drill as appropriate.
- 4)Demonstrates culture of safety behaviors/techniques. Promotes culture of safety by identifying threats to patient, family and associate safety. Reports safety events and near misses in a timely manner and completes using appropriate reporting methods. Assists in the implementation of corrective actions.

- 2)Collaborates with provider and billing department to accurately code and capture charges.
- 3)Maintains inventory par levels using standard products, AMG AOS standards.

Education/Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED •Graduate of a medical assistant program or at least one year of medical assistant or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- • Good communications skills. Experience using a keyboard and computers. • Familiarity with equipment used in ambulatory care.
- • Current AHA CPR certification. Current Medical Assistant Certification/Registration required. Non-certified MAs must obtain certification or registration within one year of hire with AMG approved certifying bodies.
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

- This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
