Job Description
Ecologist
AECOM is looking for a talented Ecologist to join our vibrant environmental transportation planning team in Atlanta, Georgia. You will be the active ecologist for a large Design-Build Transportation project in North Metropolitan Atlanta. Passionate about making a positive impact on the environment? In this role, you will work alongside a diverse range of stakeholders, immersing yourself in the heart of this long-term transportation design build project. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring sustainable practices and preserving the beauty of our natural surroundings. You will have the flexibility to collaborate remotely and experience the on-site ecology field work when needed. That's right, no travel required!
Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures
Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists
Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge
Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
Works under general supervision
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field
2 years of experience in field research (including wetland and stream delineation) and/or data collection
2 or more years of experience with report writing/document preparation, including interpretation of research and data analysis
Experience reading construction plans, specifications, and permits with emphasis on sediment and erosion control practices
Experience with Section 10/404/401 permits, mitigation, and conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field
2 years of experience in performing ecological resource surveys in the Southeast US.
2 years preparing reports for transportation projects administered by the GDOT
Experience with ESRI Survey 123, ESRI Field Maps, Bluebeam Revu, ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap
Experience preparing Clean Water Act Section 404 Individual Permits/Modifications in the USACE Savannah District
Experience preparing buffer variance applications
Experience reading and interpreting GDOT transportation plans (including GDOT Section 20 and Section 39, and calculation of impacts)
Experience working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) practitioners
Experience in transportation consulting in GA
Experience working in a collaborative team environment with multiple stakeholders
Communication experience including concise and readable technical reports
