Job Description
AECOM Oxford Project Management Team is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager within the construction industry who will play a key part in delivering Net Zero Carbon goals for our Clients. The ideal candidate has knowledge, experience and enthusiasm of working in the sustainability field within the construction sector including renewable technologies and focused experience from Strategic and Feasibility advice to Construction Management.
This role includes the responsibility for project managing exciting and diverse projects in a variety of sectors focused on delivering NZC outcomes.
This position requires you to show proven ability in supporting and delivering new sustainable processes within the construction sector.
You will need to be from a consultancy or client organisation with the ability to undertake a lead role on small to medium sized ESG related projects, with minimal support. In addition to our opportunities to deliver a variety of small to medium sized projects, you will also have the ability to work as part of an integrated team on a significant component of a large project, that will be led by an Associate or Director.
As a Senior Project Manager you will be expected to work with an Associate or Project Director to successfully manage and deliver large construction projects.
You would also be expected to develop client relationships and support work winning.
The role would cover the whole project lifecycle from initial inception and business case development, through the design, procurement process, site delivery, commissioning phase and defects management.
- Lead Project Management Commissions, taking responsibility for their successful delivery
- To provide effective support, supervision and motivation of Project Managers, Assistant/Graduate and Apprentice Project Managers
- Ensure all staff members reporting to you have current and relevant training
- Lead the management of the delivery of project management team outputs, in accordance with agreed time-scales and quality standards
- Lead internal AECOM Project Team Meetings for the purposes of coordinating the AECOM Project Team.
- Co-ordinate, review and ensure that there has been a sign off of all management information produced by project management teams prior to issue
- Lead the development of strong relationships with clients and members of the cross-functional team
- Lead the delivery of Project Management Commissions ensuring their successful delivery.
- Be the main interface with AECOM clients (New and Existing)
- Lead the management of design
- Lead the management of tender documents, appraisals and negotiations
- Lead the formulation and management of construction contracts
- Progress business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross- selling opportunities.
- To support ‘winning’ clients, being responsible for the quality of work outputs, effective communication and demonstration of professional behaviors
- Provide leadership within project management business and provide leadership and mentoring to the team
- Manage project finances, resourcing, audits, and reviews, to a portfolio of projects being led within the cost centre
- Formulate fee proposals
- Support Project Managers through Professional Chartership
- Active involvement in recruitment and retention activities
- Ensure you complete all relevant training
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience
- Knowledge and experience working within a Net Zero, Estate Decarbonization, District heating and Energy savings environment and/or organisation
- Professional Qualified to degree level – ideally Project Management/ Construction/Engineering/Quantity Surveying Degree
- Experience of Whole-Life Carbon assessment, including embodied carbon calculation and Circular Economy principles
- A good understanding of the principles of net zero carbon and science-based targets
- Chartered Status with the RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE or other equivalent institution
- Experience working within a consultancy
- Excellent understanding of the roles of different parties involved in construction projects and how these roles change over the life of the project
- Pre and post contract design /project management expertise over the RIBA lifecycle
- Excellent understanding of construction contracts, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Demonstrable experience Leading a project inclusive of defining effective project processes including finical project controls
- Demonstrable experience using the NEC Suite of Contracts to develop and complete the Works Information (
- Knowledge and experience procuring consultants and contractors
- Knowledge and experience of working with stakeholders/clients to produce Strategic Development Briefs and Client/User requirements
- Knowledge and experience of working as part of complex, multi-disciplinary/multi-agency Project Teams
Specific Skills Required
- Create agendas, chairing senior meetings and taking accurate notes inclusive of actions of meetings
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Manage accurate project records (both paper and electronic)
- Formulate strategies and manage risk using effective techniques (workshops, mitigation meetings, risk registers, etc.)
- Formulate strategies and manage stakeholders using effective techniques (workshops, RACI Charts, etc.)
- Formulate strategies for the effective management of change
- Practical application and/or understanding of relevant programme/scheduling software packages, eg Ms Project, Asta ‘
- Managing or being directly involved in the production of business case process, including analysis, benefits, and value assessments
- Management of Project Teams
