Specialist, International Trade & Compliance

Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, and strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets.

As our international business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced International Trade and Compliance Specialist – Technologist to ensure that the business maintains compliance with all U.S. regulatory requirements. This position could be located in Huntsville, Alabama or Canoga Park, California.

This person is responsible for analyzing the more than 15,000 specialized products designated for export to ensure their appropriate jurisdiction and classification under the ITAR, EAR, FTR and associated statues and regulations. This individual will stay abreast of the regulations and statutes as they evolve to ensure currency of jurisdiction and classification. The Technologist will work closely with the Chief Technologist to support Business Development, Programs, Legal, Contracts, Supply Chain, and Engineering to ensure they provide information as allowed by export control agreements and also work with International Trade specialists to modify those agreements as programs evolve. The Technologist will assist in the appointment and training of program liaisons to ensure real-time compliance with international trade regulations and statutes. The individual must be willing to understand business development, program, and supply chain goals to ensure real-time, business-positive support. Experience with company programs and emerging opportunities is therefore highly desirable.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Work is performed with minimal direction:

100% - Working under minimal direction and utilizing expertise:• Analyzes specialized products designated for export to ensure their appropriate jurisdiction and classification under the ITAR, EAR, FTR and associated statues and regulations.• Stays abreast of regulation and statutory changes to ensure currency of jurisdiction and classification.• Provides timely support to International Trade specialists to provide jurisdiction and classifications.• Establishes and maintains jurisdiction and classification training guides.• Teaches, mentors, and manages technical input from program offices and engineers, including, as applicable, jurisdiction and classification studies developed by Engineering Fellows.• Reviews and approves technical papers prior to their publication.• Maintains jurisdiction and classification database.• Attends, as applicable, technical exchanges to ensure compliance with export agreements.• Ensures jurisdiction and classifications are maintained in accordance with the United States government regulations.• Works with Director of International Trade & Compliance and Company attorneys to support investigations and possible disclosures.• Understands that IT&C is responsible for providing real-time, business-positive support to programs in furtherance of Company goals.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 8 years of related experience (10 years desired), or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with liquid rocket engines, solid rocket motors, electronics, material sciences, chemistry, satellites, electronic propulsion, solid and liquid hypersonics, manufacturing technologies, and all related sciences.Desirable Qualifications: • Advanced degree in engineering or science.• Prior experience dealing with requirements specified in ITAR, EAR, FTR, and associated statutes and regulations governing international trade.• Prior experience with program offices and engineering at the Company or in support of a company in related business field.

This position does require some travel to Aerojet Rocketdyne locations.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:Employees in these positions must posses mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
