Food Safety & Compliance Specialist

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is looking for a Food Safety & Compliance Specialist to join our Production, Quality Assurance & Food Safety team. This role will report directly to the Director of Production, Quality Assurance and Food Safety.

THE ROLE: We are looking for a talented food safety and compliance specialist to support new product development by providing information needed to generate new packaging for products. This role will support our Shops channel by providing regulatory guidance, monitoring pest control reports, and assisting in developing training materials for new processes and existing products. This role will also support our warehouses (company-owned and third party) by providing regulatory guidance and maintaining relevant regulatory documentation. The specialist will analyze customer feedback for trends and use trends to drive continuous improvement amongst suppliers, production partners, formulations and our internal production facility.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops nutrition panels and ingredient statements, and acts as a member of the label approval team to verify regulatory compliance of new labels and packaging.
• Reviews nutrition panels and ingredient statements from suppliers for compliance and accuracy prior to use.
• Generates UPCs for new products and maintains GS1 database for existing products.
• Acts as the primary technical contact for the Shops team. This support includes regulatory guidance, quality management, food safety, and new product development for shops.
• Monitors and analyzes customer and scoop shop feedback. Reviews data daily, noting trends, consumer feedback, and provides quarterly summaries of feedback trends to the Leadership Team. Uses data to drive product improvements.
• Acts as the primary technical contact for the Warehousing and Logistics team. This support includes Quality Management, Food Safety and Regulatory Guidance.

SKILLS:

• B.S. degree in Food Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in FDA compliant labeling as well as food safety and quality experience in the manufacturing or retail sector.
• Experience in nutritional labeling, work instruction development, technical reporting
• Experience with cross functional problem solving, decision making, and process improvement
• Research and project management skills in manufacturing methods and procedures
• Excellent written & verbal communication
• Must be proactive, always willing to continuously learn, solutions-driven and self-motivated
• Proficient in information analysis, reviewing patterns and numbers, particularly in Google Sheet/Excel
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced environment
• Experience in ice cream manufacturing would be a plus
