Role Description

As a member of our Trail Team, you are responsible for the care of the trail horse herd. We take great pride in providing the best possible service for ALL of our guests. You will be responsible for catching and saddling guest horses before each ride, leading guests on rides and engaging in conversations with them, when the ride is over you will be responsible to untack and turn horses out to pasture for the night.

To be successful in this position, you must love working with different breeds of horses with different temperaments every day. You will demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in horse behavior and maintenance to ensure that all horses are cared for. You will also use your customer service skills to provide the best possible ride for our guests.

General Responsibilities
  • Greet guests and members with a smiling face and make them feel welcomed and safe.
  • Complete routine to safely prepare horses, equipment, and guests for trial rides.
  • Complete routine at the end of trial rides including untacking horses and ensuring equipment is stored properly.
  • Drive a small tractor, a Polaris Ranger, groomer and other related equipment
  • Lead trail rides of up to 6 people by yourself with attention to safety and overall guest experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, patience and a sense of enjoyment in caring for horses
  • Perform daily feeding of horses, mucking stalls/paddocks (adding shavings as needed), turning out and bringing in horses, checking horses for cuts or lameness (knowledge of first aid a plus), and blanketing
  • Responsible for the care and feeding of the horses and maintenance of their pasture.
  • Must be a self-starter, work independently with little or no supervision
  • Reliable and responsible
  • Perform routine maintenance of facilities including stall upkeep.
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate care of horses and trial ride needs year-round.
  • Must have a good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate a very high standard of cleanliness and attention to detail
  • Other specializations such as maintenance, landscaping, irrigation, fencing is an asset
  • Perform additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Skills/Traits
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have at least 2 years' experience in caring for horses
• Must have previous trail leading experience.
• Current First Aid/CPR training
• Ability to discern whether a horse is in distress and needing veterinary care
• Customer service experience a plus
• Frequent standing with some walking and sitting at times
• Ability to work in a standing and sitting positions for long periods of time.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
