Director of Animal and Farm Operations
Reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and based in Mount Horeb, WI, the Director of Animal and Farm Operations will play a key role in departmental planning and oversee the expansion of the Animal Resources, Research Animal and Farm teams.
Working at the on-farm facility, this person will be tasked with finding innovative ways to enhance productivity while ensuring compliance with eGenesis current protocols and the Federal Agency’s regulations. The candidate should have strong knowledge of performance in swine production and operations management to optimize productivity and employee engagement.

Major Areas of Accountability
The selected individual will support the eGenesis-WI’s Research Programs by:
Leading the Animal Resources, Research Animal and Farm teams, and overseeing and coordinating daily activities pertaining to the referred teams.
Attending eGenesis Senior Leadership meetings, proposing plans and objectives for the department that will impact eGenesis’s performance in an effective and innovative fashion.
Leading the eGenesis Team to create an effective and environmentally sustainable expansion of the facilities for the biosecurity animal area at eGenesis.
Spearheading the new building development plans at eGenesis.
Maintaining departmental activities in compliance with eGenesis’s current standard operating procedures (SOPs), IACUC committee, and USDA regulations.
Managing all activities related to the buildings and equipment maintenance program.
Participating in budget development meetings, and effectively monitoring the department expenses.
Representing eGenesis at industry committees, conferences, and organizations related to the department.
Promote and adhere to safety in the workplace.
Promote safety awareness and adherence to health and safety regulations and practices.
Take corrective action in response to unsafe acts and conditions. Ensure equipment is properly used and maintained.
Report and investigate all accidents/incidents.
Inspect area and take remedial action to minimize and/or eliminate hazards.
Complete required training assignments, forms, and other paperwork.
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum bachelor’s degree in an Animal Science or related field with 10 years of experience in swine production (advanced degree preferred)
Must be service oriented and have the ability to work independently
Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, mentoring and teaching skills
Heavy experience with swine production (in an SPF and/or DPF bio-secure environment preferred)
Experience working on USDA and FDA regulated Animal Research Farm is preferred
