Safety Coordinator – Job Description*
JOB TITLE – Safety Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Safety
GENERAL SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Field Safety Coordinator will assist the Director of Safety with the administration of the company’s Safety Program in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
He/she will also help to determine needs and maintain proper personal protective equipment for workers and jobsites and assists in acquiring special Safety equipment as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate and assist as needed in the development and implementation of all Safety training programs with the Director of Safety.
- Perform OSHA and related record keeping and reporting, including OSHA 300 logs.
- Document and investigate accidents that may occur, informing the appropriate entities and authorities, reporting to management with recommendations for corrective action.
- Ensure Safety Policies are communicated to and followed by subcontractors & suppliers and report any non-compliance to management.
- Coordinate and conduct job site audits to ensure compliance with the approved Safety policies & procedures, document hazards, unsafe practices and inadequate documentation by site personnel through written reports and photographs to management.
- Work with the Safety Director and department Managers to ensure that employees receive all necessary safety training prior to job assignment and to provide ongoing safety training.
- Provide safety orientation for new hires and annual training update for all employees.
- Plan and implement with the Director of Safety, safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Inspect organization facilities/job sites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Assist with the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Degree in occupational health and safety, Construction Safety, or a related field of study.
- Knowledge of construction safety and current applicable federal and OSHA regulations.
- 1-3 years relevant safety experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES including licensing and competencies which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position.
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Travel is required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
