What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Manager position at Ahlstrom?
The Machine Manager has responsibility for the assigned paper machine production line to ensure achievement of all safety, quality, productivity, environmental, cost, and people development objectives. The Machine Manager also monitors critical KPls measuring the paper machine areas and implements the appropriate corrective measures to address deficiencies, utilizing continuous improvement techniques.
Main responsibility areas
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Following manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position's areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
- Leading the assigned paper machine production line
- Leading continuous improvement efforts in their work area, writing and achieving annual budgets by Business Unit area and developing capital plans to achieve short and long term performance goals.
- Responsible for the management, training and development of the paper machine process engineers.
- This person assists the Operations Manager - Paper Mill in the management, training and development of the paper machine. shift managers and the paper machine crews.
- Conduct performance reviews and improvement plans with their direct reports
- Responsible for the overall coordination all activities including maintenance during scheduled outages (Downtime).
- Weekend duty and on call requirements

Work experience
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a
full-time basis
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) or continuous improvement technologies preferred
- 7 years of experience in operations leadership in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated results in developing and implementing process improvements
Formal education
Bachelor's degree, pulp/paper science or engineering, required

- Ability to work for extended times in a pulp mill or paper mill environment, safely walk through our manufacturing plants and rough outdoor terrain,
- and wearing required personal protection gear (i.e. hand, hearing, breathing, head and foot protection).
- This job requires a fair amount of travel both local and non-local. The candidate must be able to drive for multiple hours in a day and expect to begin travel before and after normal work hours to allow for a full day of participation at the destination.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
