Schedule: Full time; up to 40 hours/week, 8 hour shifts/day
Location: Woodbury, MN (shelter environment); occasional travel to our other locations in Coon Rapids or Golden Valley
Days and times required to work:
- Ideal schedule is Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday
- Must be available to work at least one Saturday or Sunday shift per week
- Saturday, Sunday and Monday shift times vary between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:15 PM
- Tuesday - Friday shift times vary between the hours of 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM

Job Purpose: As a Veterinary Technician in our Golden Valley shelter, you are a focused and self-confident team member. You provide for the care, evaluation, examination, treatment, and support of animals.
What you will be doing as a Veterinary Technician:
- Customer Service — Interact with customers and provide timely support and counseling on results of the exams or the evaluation process.
- Animal Care — Perform treatment and monitoring of animals. Assist in surgery in accordance with established procedures. Evaluate and humanely euthanize animals as required. Responsible for calculating, preparing, administering, and logging medications and controlled substances. If working in the clinic, assist in all aspects of the spay/neuter clinic, wellness clinic, and specialty surgeries.
- Communication — Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.
- Support — Greet and respond to customer’s questions, process payment, and open and close the receiving area. Complete accurate data entry in computer system.
- Culture — Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization. Champion a culture of safety and promote meaningful volunteer engagement.

What we are looking for in a Veterinary Technician:
- Schedule — Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours as defined by leadership with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.
- Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work as a team member and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.
- Experience — Veterinary technician experience preferred.
- Computer Skills — Proficient with computers, specifically, a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
- Adaptability — Ability to work in a professional and positive manner with high attention to detail in a variety of situations and the willingness to assist at other sites.
- Physical Capabilities — Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must have a high level of resiliency.
