EEG Technician performs neurodiagnostic exams, under the direct supervision of a neurodiagnostic technologist use specialized equipment to monitor how well a patient’s nervous system is functioning, so doctors can identify and treat neurological problems. EEG technicians provide test results to the treating physicians so they can identify normal and abnormal electrical activity in the central, nervous, autonomic and peripheral nervous systems. By recording electrical patterns throughout these systems, EEG technicians provide valuable data that a physician will use to diagnose and treat conditions such as headaches, dizziness, seizure disorders, strokes and degenerative brain disease.
The technologist provides training to the technician and guidance on more difficult exams. After the exam is completed, record the gathered data in the electronic medical record. In addition to performing the exams, the technician will stock and clean the equipment and supplies needed for EEG exams.
EEG exams may be performed in urgent situations, when a patient's treatment or outcome is dependent upon it, so you will be participating in patient care.
