Overview
The Structural Steel Estimator/Project Manager will support and work with office staff in the review of project plans, requirements and specifications and will perform pricing, and bidding of projects for structural steel.
Responsibilities
- Review and understand all project plans, requirements and specifications
- Coordinate with office staff/general contractor to develop estimates
- Prepare labor and material takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel
- Review and understand all structural and architectural drawings
- Understand project logistics and project schedule
- Prepare bid packages and compare and analyze competitive supplier bids
- Review quotes,estimates,prepare recommendations
- Provide documentation for the basis of the estimate
- Review and explain all aspects of final estimates
- Project management duties may be required after acceptance of bid
- Other job duties as assigned by the Vice President
Qualifications
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- Construction estimating experience (preferred)
- Ability to read & understand structural and architectural prints is required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be able to estimate structural steel for industrial and commercial building projects, including rebuilds and ground ups
- Must be able to take concept and schematic drawings and develop a meaningful estimate with detail
- Must have understanding of all structural steel components as it applies to shop fabrication and site erection, installation, and connection
- Must be able to work under strict deadlines
- Must be able to perform job responsibilities with little to no supervision
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and have basic computer skills
- Ability to review and correct shop drawings by detailers a plus
