Responsibilities:
  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, making sure to use double patient identifiers such as name and birthdate, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and documenting medical, social and surgical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Supports patient care delivery by pre-visit planning, helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; contacting patient with tests results, messages from provider; drawing blood; taking electrocardiograms; spirometry, bone density, removing sutures; changing dressings, administering injections, maintaining immunization record in medical record and NCIR.
  • Educates patients by providing information and instructions about medication, diet, preventive care, or pertinent information about health; answering questions.
  • Proactively acts as patient advocate, responding with empathy and respect to resolve patient concerns and recognizes opportunities for improvement through patient concerns.
  • Completes records by documenting patient examination, treatment, test results and quality management.
  • Prior Authorizations - assist patients, providers and pharmacies by obtaining authorizations
  • Generates revenues by recording billing information of services rendered; completing insurance, school, medication, disability and other form requests; responding to insurance, home health, nursing facility or other third-party inquiries.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; maintaining order list; verifying receipt; discarding expired stock.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling or informing supervisor for repairs.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) standards.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • The individual must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to serve, without prejudice or judgment, clients with differing lifestyles, race, economic status, age, or religious affiliation.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to self-management support such as patient coaching and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge of population management and proactively addresses needs of patients and families served by the practice.
  • Knowledge of effective patient communication for all segments of the practice's patient population but particularly vulnerable population. Participates in regular team meetings and continuous quality improvement activities.
