Overview
As an intern in Business Support, you are part of a team with a broad responsibility for facility management of our grocery stores. Both our Construction and Maintenance groups work hard to support our store teams, as they focus on our guests. It is both exciting and challenging with new twists every day.
Together, the intern team will work with our Construction and Maintenance teams to gain a high-level understanding of grocery operations, systems, and equipment. They will work with Construction Project Managers and Maintenance Supervisors to improve processes and reporting.
In addition, our team is always looking for ways to work smarter, faster, and more efficient; provide a recommendation for a cost saving initiative or identify a process efficiency.
- Refrigerated & Frozen space optimization. Identify opportunities to reduce square footage of backroom cooler / freezer space
- Analyze the breakdown of equipment within maintenance and provide a recommendation for either proactive replacement or additional warehouse inventory of key items to improve uptime.
At the end of the experience, the team will have the opportunity to present their projects to Lowes Foods’ senior management team.
Responsibilities
- Gain an understanding of our construction process for remodels and new builds. Learn how projects are designed, estimated, approved, and managed through construction.
- Occasional ride-along with Project Manager to gain exposure to project management and store construction activities.
- Understand how equipment is ordered and assist in matching plans to budget.
Project expectation:
- Responsible for mapping our current process for Construction work from inception, to planning, and construction. Provide recommendations to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for improved communication and workflow with other departments. Evaluate currently available Project Management software and provide recommendations for improved utilization.
- Redesign our construction capex spreadsheet to integrate with our fixture plans and explore options for generating Purchase Order information factoring in current lead times.
Qualifications
- Interest in Architecture, Engineering or Project Management
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- CAD or similar design software experience is preferred but not required
