Job Title:
Manager of School Health Services

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel, the Manager of School Health Services has responsibility for training and mentoring nursing personnel, assisting nursing personnel with the delivery of health care services, systematizing, and updating uniform nursing guidelines, and advising administration on matters concerning program-based student health care needs. The manager is responsible for the health care concerns of all children and youth enrolled in the AIU-operated Special Education Schools. The manager may be required to collaborate with nurses in other AIU-operated programs. All duties will be performed in accordance with PA School Code and consistent with AIU policy and procedures.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides training, support, mentoring and coaching for nursing personnel on matters including, but not limited to, AIU policies, procedures, guidelines, school health regulations, and work-based management systems.
  • Facilitates and assists with the professional development needs of nursing personnel and site-based staff in matters concerning student health care and safety.
  • Assist in establishing relationships and coordinating nursing agency services, securing necessary personnel, as needed.
  • Assists with planning coverages for healthcare when students participate in community-based instruction and/or when nursing personnel are absent from their regularly assigned duties.
  • Shares nursing schedules with administrators.
  • Provides both on-site and/or remote assistance, when needed, in the delivery of student health care services.
  • Assists with intra-school procurement of specialized health-care supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Facilitates the establishment, review, and update of local health care procedures and guidelines in partnership with school personnel as well as other community agencies as needed.
  • Advises administration on school nursing services in matters of compliance with medical and nursing standards that best ensure safe and appropriate practices.
  • Supports nursing personnel with practical matters, including just-in-time problem solving and healthcare decision-making.
  • Participates in budgeting, reporting, and other activities in connection with program administration.
  • Facilitates the understanding nursing personnel require to complete mandates and reports necessitated by regulations and agreements of the program.
  • Serves as the administrators’ liaison with any agency contracted doctors and healthcare professionals.
  • Represent the perspective and interests of the program’s nursing personnel on agency-wide work groups and committees.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required.
  • PA Certified School Nurse certificate required.
  • Willingness to obtain Supervisor of School Health Services certification.
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently alone and in a team environment while adapting to changing priorities and managerial styles.
  • Experience working with medically fragile children preferred.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Effective, active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent public relations skills

Department: Special Education and Pupil Personnel

Position Schedule: This is a full-time, 260-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
