The Lima Civil Service Board announces an open and competitive examination for the position of Park Ranger. Testing for the position must be completed through the National Testing Network www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Applicants must also complete and submit the Civil Service Board application found at https://www.cityhall.lima.oh.us/DocumentCenter/View/3982.
Eligible List Deadline: June 9, 2023, Candidates testing by deadline and passing with a 70% or higher will appear on this eligible list.
Continuous Testing: Candidates may continue to test after above deadline and will qualify for next eligible list.
Rate of Pay: $24.13 per hour

- Click “Law Enforcement” exam, “Ohio”, then find “Lima, City of – Park Ranger” and finish registration
- Complete Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA, accessed through your candidate account)
- Complete Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ, accessed through your candidate account)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, performs law enforcement functions; performs park facility construction, maintenance, and repair functions; performs park grounds maintenance and conservation functions; assists in supervision of seasonal employees; maintains records; maintains personal and professional competence and awareness.
QUALIFICATIONS: The training, education and work experience which indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. The minimum acceptable qualifications for this position are:
- Completion of high school education
- Training and experience involving public contact
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment
- Must possess valid Ohio driver’s license
- Must obtain Ohio Peace Officer Certification within six (6) months of appointment
- Must become First Aid/CPR certified within twelve (12) months of appointment
- Department Overview: Our charge is to manage the continued development, security and overall maintenance of the city parks, recreational sites, the riverwalk/bikeway, as well as recreational programming and activities, including the operations of local splash pads. We also oversee the management of the Urban Forest which includes the trees located on city owned property throughout the Lima community.
- Our Park Rangers, all certified Peace Officers in the State of Ohio, administer the safety and security of not only the parks, recreational sites and recreation programming, they also assist with surveillance of the reservoir system of the city. Population: Lima 35,868 Allen County 101,455
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Age: 21
- Valid OHIO Driver’s License: Yes
- Education: High School education
- Ohio Peace Officer Certification: Must obtain within six (6) months of appointment
