What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Alliance Advisors?
Headquartered in the U.S., Alliance provides strategic shareholder and investor advisory services to over 1,000 public companies operating in major capital markets around the world. Leveraging extensive intelligence and relationships across the global investor community, its team of professionals provides the guidance and execution for companies to achieve their complex corporate governance, investor relations, and shareholder communication objectives.
Alliance is rapidly expanding, and we are seeking a hands-on Controller with demonstrated FP&A experience to manage the finance team comprised of both in-house and outsourced resources. The Controller will lead accounting, FP&A, and special project work in a high-growth advisory firm, active in both M&A and international expansion.
The candidate for this role will be working full time in our Bloomfield, NJ headquarters.
RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Financial Operations
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable with particular emphasis on a high-volume treasury-management environment.
- Review daily cash and other key reconciliations.
- Facilitate accounting department's use of NetSuite and various other software applications to streamline accounting and other financial processes.
- Monitor, analyze and report client time-tracking through Salesforce.
- Optimize use of internal and outsourced resources to minimize cost to the company.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Direct the monthly financial close - identify and investigate key variances to budget and prior periods.
- Coordinate and lead monthly financial reviews with division leads.
- Prepare monthly management financial packages, including MD&A for timely distribution to management and the board.
- Analyze/report financial and operational data to key members of the leadership team, including key metrics on all financials.
- Prepare rolling cash-flow forecasts to effectively manage working capital and anticipate borrowing needs.
- Evaluate business unit performance against budget and develop periodic updated financial forecasts (P&L, balance sheet and cash flow).
- Prepare financial slides for quarterly board meeting decks.
- Lead the annual budgeting process (P&L, balance sheet and cash flows) including coordination with division leads and other members of senior management.
- Develop and “own” key financial and operational models.
Compliance
- Develop systems to comply with transactional tax filings and periodic submissions.
- Manage the annual financial audit for timely completion and delivery of audited financial statements.
- Collaborate with outside tax accountants to create draft K-1s for distribution to LLC members and enable timely extension-filing, as well as completion of the final tax return (upon audit completion) and delivery of final K-1s.
- Work with international consultants/advisors to ensure compliance with country-specific financial/tax reporting regulations.
- Coordinate with outside tax accountants to calculate quarterly tax distributions and track distribution status by member, as well as payments to tax authorities.
Internal Controls
Develop, document, implement, monitor, test and adjust:
- Internal financial and operational controls.
- Accounting and financial policies, processes and procedures.
- Operational policies through coordination with the Operations team.
Other key activities
- Work with CFO and other senior management on due diligence of acquisition targets.
- Collaborate with CFO and other departments on post-acquisition integration activities; both financial and operational.
- Coordinate with outside technical experts on accounting, tax and financial systems matters.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- CPA/CMA or progress towards the credential.
- Advanced EXCEL-modeling in an FP&A environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a Controller in a high-growth environment.
- Proficiency with NetSuite and/or Salesforce.
- Private equity portfolio-company experience.
- Experience in a professional services company.
- Master’s degree.
- Public/private accounting mix.
