The Senior Buyer manages the expenditure base for materials and/or services to support a location’s purchasing programs. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. - Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with plant engineering to ensure
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of a senior buyer and/or the director of purchasing.
- Interviews suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from management.
- Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with ERP requirements.
- Coordinates quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
- May visit suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a field of Engineering. In lieu of a degree, equivalent years of experience required.
- 3 – 5 years of experience purchasing experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both by email, phone and in person.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and MRP systems.
- The role is mostly office-based but may spend some time standing and walking on the production floor.
- May be required to operate a computer and/or other office devices.
- Occasionally will have to lift and/or transport items weighing between 10 and 30 pounds.
- Predominately office environment with occasional exposure to the production floor.
- May be subjected to moving mechanical parts and may be required wear such as safety glasses.
