Job Summary:
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Director will be responsible for overseeing the HSE programs and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations for all five manufacturing facilities. They will provide guidance, develop policies, and implement measures to promote health and safety, environmental sustainability, and waste management practices. The HSE Director will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, manage audits, maintain documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The position is also responsible for all aspects of Regulatory Affairs as it pertains to defined locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Health and Safety (H&S) Management:
o The HSE Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive HS&E programs in compliance with corporate policies.
o Standardize, implement, track, Improve, and reportto management, safety metrics for all five facilities.
o Implement, execute, and improve 5S programs across all five manufacturing facilities by cross-collaborating with operational and engineering teams.
o Stay updated on federal, state, and municipal regulations related to H&S and provide information to ensure facilities' compliance.
o Conduct regulatory and internal audits to assess compliance levels, recommend corrective actions, and maintain appropriate documentation.
o Assist facilities in the development of H&S programs, review procedures, and promote best practices for minimizing injuries and hazards.
o Inspect facilities for existing and potential accident risks and health hazards, recommend and ensure implementation of preventive measures.
o Identify and put action plans for critical business risk areas around health, safety, and environmental which may put the enterprise under severe operational risk if not addressed appropriately (ERM – Enterprise Risk Management).
o Serve as a member of H&S Committees at all five manufacturing facilities, ensuring H&S committees fulfil their duties and the meetings cover relevant topics, improve employee engagement, and recommend continuous improvement.
2. Environmental Management:
o Ensure waste management practices comply with regulations, including responsible disposal of emissions to air, water, and other mediums.
o Develop plans and strategies to reduce waste generation, collaborating with internal teams and seeking external expertise when necessary.
o Coordinate the application of environmental permits, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with regulations.
o Establish and implement chemical security plans, including compliance with TSCA reporting requirements.
o Seek out and assess vendors for recycling, disposal, and other environmental services to ensure compliance and responsible practices.
o Propose and spearhead execution of companywide long-term environmental (E of ESG) goals around energy consumption and reduction of greenhouse gases.
o Manage the existing ISO 14001 programs ; gain and maintain ISO 14001 at other locations, as specified by Management.
3. Regulatory Affairs:
o Obtain and maintain access to applicable government (Federal, State, and County) regulations pertaining to Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E). Monitor regulatory changes to stay informed and updated.
o Develop and maintain procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with government regulations.
o Assist in the development of audit procedures and checklists to assess compliance with regulatory requirements.
o Prepare and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Labels for all products within the company, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
o Evaluate products and raw materials for compliance with various regulations such as FDA, CONEG, ROHS, CEPA (DSL lists), TSCA, and other relevant chemical inventories.
o Ensure compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, including maintenance of CHEMTREC and CANUTEC registration.
o Determine National Motor Freight Class (NMFC) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for products in compliance with trade regulations.
o Respond to customer requests and inquiries regarding regulatory matters, providing accurate and relevant information.
o Monitor international regulations related to the sales of products overseas to ensure compliance.
4. Documentation and Compliance:
o Maintain up-to-date Safety, Health, Environment, Energy, and Risk (SHEER) manuals across all plant facilities.
o Manage training records related to H&S and ensure they are accurate and current.
o Review and approve Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all lab materials and raw materials used in our and our customers’ manufacturing processes.
o Maintain SDS information in internal systems and maintain a master regulatory spreadsheet.
o Utilize existing IT modules (BIS) for assigning and managing training, finished goods and raw materials approvals.
o Ensure timely completion of governmental reports and retain necessary documentation for inspections.
5. Auditing and Continuous Improvement:
o Organize and participate in HSE audits of plants, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
o Work closely with internal H&S consultant, and collaborate with counterparts in other locations
o Provide input and drive continuous improvement initiatives specific to each facility, working with H&S committees and management.
6. External Engagement:
o Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs as needed.
o Liaise with consultants, government agencies, auditors, and vendors regarding HSE matters.
o Respond to customer inquiries related to HSE issues through sales personnel, ensuring information is provided without accepting liability.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
