Position Overview:
The PJM Analyst will directly support and partner with the Senior VP, Hedging and Portfolio Optimization through the adroit analysis of market data, data management, and translating the data into actionable business intelligence which will assist in the development and execution of trading strategies, as well as overall operational strengths within the PJM market.
Role and Key Responsibilities:
- Market Analysis: Accountable for the diligent analysis of commodity prices and volatility trends.
- Market Analysis: Responsible for the monitoring of related supply, demand, and transmission fundamentals used in the identification of profitable optimization opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.
- Data Management: Collect, systematize, and store large technical datasets from varying sources to assist in transforming market intelligence into actionable insights that support optimization strategies.
- Trading Support: Provides timely analysis and recommendations to support trading activities including cash and term hedging, portfolio optimization, and risk management.
- Reporting: Preparation of detailed reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management, highlighting market performance, trading results, and key insights; translating complex, technical data into a story that is easily understood by a nontechnical audience.
- Regulatory Analysis: Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes impacting AlphaGen assets, optimization, and risk management strategies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stays abreast of regulatory and compliance matters with PJM market rules, FERC regulations, and internal policies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Collaborates with internal teams, including energy management, legal, risk, and finance, to ensure alignment on AlphaGen strategies, risk mitigation, and goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifies and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices to enhance the optimization of analysis and trading activities.
Professional and Educational Requirements:
- 1-3 years of experience as an energy analyst, or related field.
- High levels of proficiency with SQL, Excel, Python, VBA (Power BI, R, and Tableau are preferable additions).
- Strong experience with data management and market analysis, and manipulation is a must.
- Power industry background is highly preferable.
- Ability to collaborate, thinking analytically while communicating complex issues in nontechnical ways.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Operates well in a fast-paced environment, with a desire to expand professional knowledge and grow into a trading, origination or similar commercial role.
- Experience in analyzing large sets of data; knowledge of trading environments and commodity market risk issues is highly preferred.
- Prior experience creating management reports / dashboards and developing senior level reporting.
- Undergraduate degree or higher (graduate degree preferred) in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
