Job Summary: The Director of Development must be highly motivated and exceedingly prepared to build the foundation of a well-rounded and successful fundraising program, as well as serve as a local spokesperson and ambassador for Alphapointe. The Development Director will also be an excellent communicator, with the ability to listen and create tailored pitches, both in writing and verbally, and will be excited by the responsibility of significantly increasing financial support for Alphapointe.
Responsible for contributing to the overall fundraising activities and goals of the development department, including grant writing, corporate and foundation support, donor development, as well as capital campaign support and funding for future growth. Directly supervise fund development staff.
Essential Functions:
- Works closely with Chief Development Officer, President & CEO, Board of Directors, Foundation board and staff to execute fundraising initiatives; sets goals for team regarding funds needed to support agency initiatives.
- Designs and implements a comprehensive fund development strategy that includes donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship designed to secure revenue in support of Alphapointes operations.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of high-capacity corporate, foundation and individual donors to secure revenue in support of Alphapointes programs, capital needs, and future growth.
- Research grant-making organizations and analyze them to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.
- Attend, assist and represent Alphapointe at various key fundraising events/functions, speaking engagements, tours, and other programs.
- Work with Chief Dev Officer, Directors, finance, rehabilitation and program staff to gather information to report to corp/foundation and individual donors on current programs.
- Assist in the solicitation of government and local grants
- Prepare regular reports on development progress against targets.
- Understand agency history, programs, and goals and communicate them effectively.
- Meet with foundation officers and other prospects, arrange for onsite tours for supporters (foundation officers, foundation trustees, individual donors), and attend meetings with CDO and/or CEO.
- Maintain current records in database, including grant tracking, reporting and individual giving.
- Maintains files and all reporting requirements and awards acknowledgements.
- Works collaboratively with all departments to enhance donor cultivation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelors Degree required; Masters preferred
- 3-5 years of fundraising experience as a development officer
- Proven track record in all areas of fund development including leadership and major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, events, campaigns, and capital fundraising
- Demonstrated history of successful fund raising with sustained results
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and work collaboratively with staff located in KC, NY and other areas
- Extensive knowledge of and relationships in the areas philanthropic community
- Ability to seek out and engage new and prospective donors and funding partners
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:
- Some evening and weekends may be required for events, as well as local travel to area meetings, and NY operations.
