ALS Food provides an extensive range of food analytical testing services, including food production environments and raw and cooked meat, dairy, produce, seafood and animals feeds. We work closely with our clients to ensure their needs are met now and in the future.
Primary Objective:
The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and overseeing all food testing laboratory activities.
Laboratory Manager has the following duties:
- Develop quality relationships with employees and customers.
- Day to day management of staff. Day to day production management for the laboratory ensuring TAT targets are achieved.
- Optimize production efficiency. Ensure that long term HR strategies are adhered to and that compliance is maintained.
- Ensure the laboratory is suitably equipped, staffed and using approved methodologies to provide quality service to clients.
- Achieve budgeted financial performance of the laboratory.
- Maintains a working knowledge of and ensures compliance to Quality System including the manual, system procedures (QMSPs) and procedures as applicable to ISO 17025.
- Maintain technical competency on laboratory processes and procedures.
- Approves final reports prior to dispatch, advising staff to take corrective action where necessary.
- Ensure staff members are appropriately trained.
- Ensure that OHSA policies are adhered to in all aspects of the business.
- Continually assess the laboratory to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Manage financial performance of the laboratory.
- Authorize the purchase of consumables.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- 5 years of laboratory experience is preferred.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience is preferred.

- Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office.

Other Requirements:
- Must be able to lift (with both hands) and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move heavier loads with assistance.
- Must be able to stand, bend, push, pull, stoop and crouch up to 50% of the time while performing the duties of this position.
