Shop Foreman
Altus Technology Solutions, LLC is seeking a Shop Foreman to support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in the Newport, RI area. This job posting is in response to a request for proposals. Should Altus be awarded the contract, the work is scheduled to begin in June 2023.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for the supervision of a Government Fabrication Shops technical personnel. Performs, assigns and monitors non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on the development of project test articles.
The Shop Foreman shall possess the following capabilities:

Review project and facility program planning; scheduling and coordinating with contractor leads, engineers, and customers to insure that program requirements are satisfied without jeopardizing safety of operations.

Attend project meetings as required for all phases of program planning, scheduling, and milestone reviews for project areas such as fabrication, repair, setup, and test execution.

Supervise technicians in their performance on project work teams supporting fabrication of prototypes and articles to be used in test sites and project test article preparation and setup, modifications, and teardown in a shop setting or in the field during testing.

Supervise technicians in their performance of machine tooling, steel and aluminum cutting, and welding operations on articles and systems. Also, the fabrication of unconventional, one-of-a-kind items, systems, or apparatus in support of experimental project test articles.

Supervise advanced welding on a wide range of materials, and inspect the welding of fabrications prior to customer delivery.

Participate in engineering, planning, design, and fabrication of systems and unique equipment installations.

Supervise the maintenance, calibration, and repair of equipment and test simulator assemblies, or the construction of new systems to achieve test simulation requirements.

Provide technical guidance to Team Leads and Technicians in the development of equipment and systems for use by test programs or NUWC requirements.

Subject matter expert in standard welding operations utilizing MiG, TiG, Arc, and Oxy-Acetylene.

Ability to manage a project schedule, to include procurement, estimating, planning, execution, and supervision of fabrication teams.

Perform in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and critical timelines as per customer needs.
Required Candidate Qualifications:

Active Secret Clearance

Valid Rhode Island Drivers License

High School Diploma or equivalent, Advanced Technical Degree a plus

Ten (10) years of demonstrated hands-on experience working in a Machine Shop environment in fabrication and/or machine shop operations, sheet metal fabrication, composite materials tooling and fabrication, welding operations and mechanical assembly.

Two (2) years of direct experience leading and managing fabrication/machine shop operations.

Demonstrated experience in developing individual work plans that coincide with shop schedules, preparing cost estimates and understanding of the requirements for proper use of Industry Standards for PPE, HAZMAT handling, crane operations, and forklift use

Understanding of Department of Defense (DoD) purchasing policies and procedures and visitor control procedures
Working Conditions:
Capable of working in a government owned machine shop with occasional work outdoors. Some travel expected. Working hours are 0600-2000 Monday Friday. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime is a requirement for this position.
