Key job responsibilities
• Manages Store Designer resources ensuring development timelines, store budgets and store count targets are achieved
• Sets strategic goals for the Store Design team
• Owns the execution of Design standards, processes, tools and systems
• Manages consultants (including negotiating fees), managing their work flow and capacity along with quality assurance
• Owns setting direction and coordination across construction and facilities on programmatic changes (e.g. customer experience, cost savings initiatives)
• Owns and leads the development of the store design playbook
• Writes program documents that drive new innovations, outline testing/analysis to inform design decisions, or define standards and processes
• Owns the tools and processes to ensure jurisdictional and landlord requirements are incorporated into the design of the store
• Works with key internal and external stakeholders (including architecture firms) in the production of comprehensive design development package standards including but not limited to Pre-Construction, Construction, Engineering, Concept Design, Launch, Operations, Category, Security, Safety and Tech
• Aligns cross-functional team members on category layout, coordination fixture layout, and implementation of technical requirements
• Aligns teams toward simple, coherent designs aligned with business objectives
• Leads design review meetings with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
• Owns the strategy for quality assurance checks on Construction Drawings for design studio
• Owns the strategy for jurisdictional review and required revisions to the Construction Drawings to obtain required permits
• Owns the strategy to ensure landlord approvals for store design considerations are obtained per lease requirements
A day in the life
Amazon seeks a Manager to lead the Amazon Convenience Store Design team responsible for designing new physical stores, rolling out new concepts, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across our portfolio of open locations. Responsible for the execution of design standards, processes, tools and systems across the store design team; this position collaborates with internal and external cross-functional teams to manage the execution of multiple end-to-end projects at any given time.

The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge and expertise in retail design at scale. A strong people manager who fosters a collaborative working environment across multiple design disciplines including: interior design, architecture and mechanical design. A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with a deep passion for innovative retail design; the ideal candidate sees around corners, is biased for action ensuring the team is set up for success in achieving our goals and earns trust through broad stakeholder influence. This candidate can independently complete complex tasks and projects quickly, react with appropriate urgency to immediate needs, take effective action without needing to know the total picture. Additionally, the candidate must have experience designing and implementing effective mechanisms that drive operational excellence. We are looking for someone obsessed with creating world-class shopping experiences for customers at both the micro and macro level.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS)
• 10 years of commercial interior design or architecture experience
• Retail development experience with a multi-unit retailer
• Experience in managing direct reports
• Experience in: Architecture/ Retail Design; Design Development, Construction / Permit Documentation; Custom Furniture/Fixture Design; Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp software
• Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends, building/health codes, 3D visualization, and color/design principles
• Demonstrated ability to communicate design vision in visual, written, and verbal formats
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an extremely fast paced, ambiguous environment
• Proven track record of owning project from start to finish – self-starter and self-directed
• Proactive and flexible attitude; willingness to take an “all hands on deck” approach
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Creative, critical thinker with advanced analytical skills
• Ability to work within an ambiguous environment and manage change
• Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement
• InDesign and Photoshop experience
