Bioinformatics Specialist

JOB OVERVIEW:

The main role of this position is project coordination, timeline management, and requirement gathering. To this end, the Bioinformatics Specialist analyzes and refines business and user requirements, and coordinates with developers to facilitate bioinformatics solutions through the entire SDLC, from discovery, design, development, and validation. The Bioinformatics Specialist is also responsible for creating documentation and timelines for the release of such bioinformatics solutions, and report project status updates upon request. The ideal candidate should have combined knowledge of both the business and the technical environment. Knowledge of genetic testing and bioinformatics operations are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders.
• Work with developers to propose solutions that align with defined business logic and objectives, determine the technical and operational feasibility, and identify the potential impact on other systems and workflows.
• Analyze current workflows and prepare functional requirements for the proposed solutions, and ensure requirements are understood and approved by stakeholders.
• Validate and analyze assay performance to meet regulatory requirements.
• Work with quality and regulatory team in documenting validation results and obtain approvals for software release through change control protocols.
• Work with Project Management Office (PMO) to create timelines of technical deliverables, and report project status updates to stakeholders and bioinformatics management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• MS degree or BS degree plus 2 years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, biology, or related discipline.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle.
• Experience in using high performance computing and storage systems.
• Experience in the use of bioinformatics software, packages, and databases.
• Experience with one or more of the programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics (Perl, Python, R, bash, SQL) in Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience with Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and bioinformatics pipelines.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• At least 1 year of experience in project management or as business analyst.
