Job Description Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources & Communications, the Director, Communications will be a strategic communications partner who will work across all functions globally to drive effective communications, strategies and programs at the enterprise level. The Director, Communications will work closely with the business group President, Executive Team and HR Leadership Team to provide counsel and support in developing and executing communications initiatives. He/she will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs to communicate AFNA’s business strategies, initiatives, culture, and values to its employees and customers. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Internal Communications Develop and implement overall communication strategy for AFNA to achieve maximum reach and effectiveness for key stakeholders and ensure employees understand the key outcomes of their function and business, and how they contribute to the success of the organization. Establish relationships at various levels throughout Amcor to build awareness of priorities and challenges to identify needs and opportunities for strategic global internal communications activities. Provide dedicated internal communications support for company leadership and enterprise initiatives, including crafting tools such as executive communications for the senior leadership team, project-specific communications plans, intranet articles, key messages/Q&As and other communications. Develop, edit and manage all internal and external communications activities including high quality written, visual and video collateral as well as press releases that maintain consistency with AFNA's messaging and editorial guidelines. Drive understanding and alignment to “Being Amcor” including the need to deliver single brand messages regarding the Amcor Way and Being Amcor to new audiences e.g. communication the Amcor Way to new employees and new markets globally. Oversee the day-to-day co-worker communications including newsletters, internal announcements and intranet content. Provide strategic communications counsel to the executive team and senior leadership. Develop and implement plant-based communication program and support materials. Work in tandem with communications counterparts to leverage plant communications intelligence, programs and support materials across facilities. Monitor Serve as a critical member of the intranet development team by ensuring AFNA’s intranet layout and content are intuitive and clear. Research, identify, and implement new communication vehicles that effectively reach employees globally in various settings, from offices to plants and remote employees. Manage all supporting communications and creative agencies, ensuring consistent branding and identity across deliverables. Public Relations Proactively identify opportunities to create and execute comprehensive PR programs including trade and consumer events and publicity, marketing tie-ins and promotions, strategic partnerships, and other industry events. Manage PR initiatives and provide strategic insight that will drive business results by working directly with external agencies and internal departments, including Marketing and Sales. Effectively field and respond to domestic media inquiries, coordinating with regional colleagues and corporate communications as appropriate. Research, write, and execute global messaging, press releases, briefing documents, to support communication strategy. Major Challenges & Complexities Dealing with various stakeholders from the AFNA Leadership Team, BU’s, and Amcor Ltd while managing competing priorities. Needs to take a hands-on approach, can work independently, and be able to deal with ambiguity at times Able to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders in the different Business Units Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability to work creatively and analytically in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Working with multi-cultural teams across North America, South America, Central America and Mexico, potentially other international geographies, as appropriate. Strategically prioritizing competing tasks Interaction and business partnering with other Amcor Business Groups, as appropriate. Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have exceptional communications skills that include concept development, writing, editing, presentation development and coaching. The candidate must be highly motivated, goal-driven, proactive self-starter who demonstrates mature judgement and appropriate assertiveness. S/He must have the ability to influence at all levels throughout the organization; ability to gain consensus, managing sensitive situations and sensitive materials. S/He must possess a willingness and ability to balance strategy with a “rolling up the sleeves” approach to get the work done. In addition, the following skills, experience, and qualifications are viewed as being highly desirable for potential candidates: 10 years’ experience in developing and managing a broad range of internal and external communications strategies within an organization. Undergraduate degree in a business field with advanced degree is highly desirable; top MBA preferred. Ability to communicate in a voice consistent with AFNA’s executives, values and culture. Extensive work experience in internal communications, strategic organizational communications, employee engagement campaigns and other employee-oriented communication initiatives. Ability to align and integrate communication strategy with business strategy and stakeholder insights. Exceptional analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work to deadlines and maintain high levels of professionalism under pressure. Excellent writing, editing, content creation, and presentation skills. Strong project management skills to meet deadlines, establish clear priorities quickly and bring projects to completion on time and within budget. Ability to build effective relationships as a trusted business partner, using strong influencing skills at the senior management level. Ability to effectively partner with employees at all levels. Capable of understanding perspectives of multiple audiences and able to develop content focused on the specific needs of various employee types and roles. Media relations experience preferred. Team player with an open and energetic attitude, easy to shift between strategy and hands-on execution, who can work independently. Comfortable working under pressure to deliver results, willing to go the extra mile. Business Acumen: ability to understand business results, goals and challenges and communicate effectively to various audiences. Global business: knowledge of international business culture and cultural nuances affecting communication.
