What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biological Science position at AMDA?

AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts is one of the foremost performing arts colleges in the country with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City. The school offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts as well as two year conservatory programs.

AMDA is seeking qualified part-time/adjunct instructors to teach Biological Science. Teaching assignment(s) may include any of the curriculum approved courses within the disciplines of biological sciences. The instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of the academic success for all students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
  • Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and assessing student work;
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/adjunct faculty member;
  • Maintaining accurate academic records.

Required Educational Credentials:

  • Master’s degree in biology/anatomy/physiology.
Required Professional Expertise:
  • A minimum of three years of teaching biological sciences in a post-secondary setting.
  • Recent, successful teaching experience in the subject area.
  • Experience with or willingness to explore innovative teaching methodologies in addition to lecture mode.
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at in higher education institutions, including effective use of technology.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.
  • Have sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
  • Successful candidates will be able to apply their mathematics expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists.

Desired Qualifications

  • Doctorate in biology/anatomy/physiology or in a related field preferred, with at least 18 graduate credits in the focused area.
