Job Summary

Aircraft Worker Avionics NAS Norfolk VAW-120

 

The Aircraft Worker for the avionics work center applies general knowledge of avionics systems to perform maintenance and launch evolutions of the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft. Work experience on the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft is preferred.  Work may be reviewed by supervisors or quality assurance for general compliance with accepted practices. This position will require other general aircraft duties such as servicing fuel, engine oil, and radar liquid cooling systems, aircraft move and wash evolutions, and other general duties required for maintaining the work space, hanger bay, and flight line.

 

Candidate must be able to follow standard checkout procedures to locate malfunctions, read schematics and block diagrams, and use general and specialized system test equipment. Must be able to complete maintenance forms, inventory parts and supplies, perform avionics corrosion control, diagnose non-routine malfunctions and demonstrates repair techniques, and perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

 

• Must have 1 year minimum O-level (E-2C preferred) aircraft avionics system maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Perform organizational maintenance on the E-2C Hawkeye avionics systems both ashore and afloat.

• Shift work and detachment is required.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
• Be able to inspect and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Must be able to obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification System which includes a 7 year background check and obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
