Assistant Fire Chief

PRIMARY: Serve as the Operations Officer at all emergency incidents that may be a result of natural forces, major accidents, fire or explosions, oil and hazardous materials spills, and/or accidents occurring in confined spaces.  Ensure compliance with Company and governmental guidelines and regulations pertaining to the responsibilities of this position.  Customarily and regularly directs the work of six (6) or more employees.  Has the authority to recommend hiring, firing, promotion, and change of status of employees.  Work requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment.  EXPERIENCE:  Four (4) years' experience as a Firefighter/Fire Captain with broad knowledge of Fire Protection/Prevention.  A good working knowledge of the care, operation, and maintenance of all fire equipment essential.  A thorough knowledge of the Hawthorne Army Depot layout essential.

• Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
• May be required to work overtime.
• Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
• Ability to work a flexible schedules and shift work.

• Basic Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• State of Nevada Firefighter I and II certification.
• State of Nevada certified Fire Officer I and Technical Fire Protection/Prevention training highly desirable.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license. 
• Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System                                                                                                                     

• Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) site access.
• Good writing and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to operate a computerized based terminal.
• Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
• Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
• Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by State & Federal Contract Customers

• Desired Qualifications:

• Reliability and dedication to perform thorough job with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
