Position Summary

The Driver Associate ensures the safe, timely, and courteous transportation of patients from their homes to designated American Care medical facilities, referral services, and return to their homes. Drivers are responsible for keeping the vehicles and the equipment well maintained, ensuring that the vehicle has all necessary supplies and maintenance services performed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Picks up daily transportation schedule from the medical office.
  • Ascertains that transportation schedule provided by the medical office includes the patients’ addresses.
  • Calls patients the day before to verify transportation services.
  • In the case of unforeseen delays, contacts the medical office to notify the patient to inform them of the issue.
  • Ensures that patients being transported adhere to safety belt use, as required by law.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and care in the transportation of patients.
  • Brings to the attention of supervisor any mechanical problems associated with company-assigned vehicle as soon as these become evident.
  • Ensures that company-assigned vehicle is always clean, orderly, and in good repair
  • Ensures that licensure and insurance documents pertaining to company-assigned vehicle are safely locked in the vehicle’s compartment at all times.
  • Abides by all Florida driving laws and rules of the road.
  • Transports patients in a safe and professional manner.
  • Must be able to understand directions and the ability to read and use maps accurately.
  • Assist patients if there are special requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to perform repetitive tasks, repetitive movements of hands fingers such as driving. The job requires standing up, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position. The employee will frequently be required to each with hands and arms, grip, bend a knee, sit for period of time, and stand for long periods of time. Employee will have frequent communication verbally and written. Must be able to exchange accurate information, demonstrate skills in verbal communication and listening. Employee must have a current and valid Florida driver’s license, pass mandatory and random drug and alcohol screenings. Vision to read printed instructions and labels, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person, and over the telephone. Must be able to push and pull all modes of patient transport equipment, ability to lift a minimum of 50 ponds assisting patients when help is needed (wheelchair, walker, etc.) Employee must have the ability to perform the heavy lifting required in the movement of patients and the transport of patients in a wheelchair.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred experience.
  • Minimum one year of transportation services required.
  • Must possess 2-3 years in the transportation area with a current, valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Must have a satisfactory motor vehicle record and criminal history record.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
