SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Academic Dean, Director of Online Learning, or the Executive Director, and with an indirect reporting relationship to the University Librarian, serves as a the campus manager of the Library Department, providing leadership, direction, administration, supervision and assessment of department staff, collections and services. The librarian is responsible for the development of strategies, partnerships and initiatives to enhance student knowledge of library resources and services strengthening their information literacy skills. Additionally, the librarian will conduct outreach to the campus community and build partnerships, becoming part of the active campus network of services promoting student success. The Librarian will oversee daily functions of a site or special service area, including supervision of Assistant Librarians, Library Technicians and Federal Work study student workers. The Librarian effectively interprets and implements procedures, enforces policies, and delivers quality customer service to users in person or virtually. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, library operations and policy administration, fiscal management, staff performance and evaluation, collection development and maintenance, information literacy and research services, technical services including cataloging and local library systems management, and participation in on-campus events and activities sponsored by other departments in accordance with the mission and purpose of the University.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Broadly knowledgeable about professional discipline and related disciplines. Experienced in administering projects and programs preferred. Generally 3-5 years of relevant experience required.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible related experience in a library setting, preferably in higher education.
- Working knowledge of library instruction, reference, circulation/technical services, processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System.
- Experience with library profession tools and resources including integrated library systems, online catalogs, electronic subscription databases, interlibrary loan practices, e-book hosting platforms, mobile devices and apps, and reference chat services.
- Experience with outreach and marketing of library services to students and faculty.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
PREFERERED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- One or more years’ experience working in an academic, hospital or health sciences library.
- Experience and familiarity with strategies promoting information literacy to a diverse student body.
- Familiarity with evidence-based practice and health sciences trends and topics, including evidence-based practice and HIPAA.
EDUCATION:
Master’s Degree in Library Science, Library Information Science, Information Science or related degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association
Undergraduate or graduate degree in the health sciences or related field is preferred.
