Job Summary
CNC Horizontal Mill operators use computer-controlled machines to fabricate parts from metal or plastic. Produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards for custom parts for ACMF customers.
Summary of essential Job functions
Ø Program Horizontal Mill by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches
Ø Calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
Ø Sets-up Horizontal Mill by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
Ø Load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
Ø Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; Performs test operations to ensure the product is made to specifications
Ø Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
Ø Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Ø Run the machine and monitoring it for problems
Ø Make adjustments to the operating speed based on vibrations and sounds that may indicate a malfunction
Ø Inspect any material from waterjet, laser, saw, and/or weldments
Ø Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task
Ø Perform all dimensional inspections
Ø Operate multiple machines
Ø Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
Ø Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
Ø Perform prescribed maintenance as required; Clean and maintain equipment
Ø Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely
Summary of secondary Job functions
Ø Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications required
Ø High School Diploma or equivalent education experience
Ø Certificate or associate's degree programs in machine or manufacturing technology
Ø Relevant coursework covering blueprint reading, computer-aided design, machining principles, and metals
Ø Minimum 1 year manufacturing experience in a machining environment
Ø Ability to read blueprints
Ø Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance
Ø Familiarity with the following machines, preferred: Mighty Viper (3axis CNC bridge mill)
Ø Proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills
Ø Ability to distinguish material types including Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Copper and Brass
Ø Fork lift operation experience
Ø Ability to work with minimal supervision, self motivated, able to work as a part of a Team with a positive attitude
Ø Safety conscience
Ø Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 75 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking
