The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing and customer experiences. The Global Brand Planning team is part of the Enterprise Brand and Marketing Strategy team and are responsible for bringing the global brand strategy to life for our colleagues and customers through our marketing efforts globally.
As the Director of Brand Planning, we are looking for a brand strategist who will become the foremost expert in our B2B and Travel strategy and guide our business unit partners across Global Commercial Services (GCS) and Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) in how they can connect their products, services and campaigns to deliver consistent marketing and ensure the continued strength of the brand. They will be responsible for delivering better end-to-end marketing capabilities by leveraging the best thinking and assets across American Express. The director will play a critical role as a connector of our enterprise marketing efforts and US-specific marketing efforts. They will need to have excellent relationship building skills and proven results leveraging their relationships to execute complex projects in a matrixed organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The individual must be able to influence outcomes through collaboration with senior leaders and business partners. The successful candidate must have proven leadership qualities and exhibit the following abilities:
- Building relationships across all three key business unit stakeholders and drive global brand strategy initiatives.
- Partnering with marketing teams to deliver globally consistent marketing efforts and briefs.
- Lead cross-channel, high priority strategic initiatives across business units
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to serve as an active participant in defining business strategy.
- Be the key point of contact and center of excellence for business unit teams they work with and ensuring end-to-end continuity in the work GABM delivers.
- Partner with Amex Insights to identify whitespace opportunities and inform go-to-market plans for stakeholders
Role Requirements:
- Proactive, assertive leader comfortable working in a highly collaborative cross-functional environment.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and make connections of key strategic priorities.
- Experience in brand strategy.
- Experience writing marketing briefs and delivering global marketing plans.
- Proven track record deploying strategic plans and driving results.
- Experience operating with large cross-functional teams, internal and external partners.
- Strong relationship & service-oriented mindset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with exceptional ability to translate ideas and thoughts in written presentations.
- Strong detail orientation with ability to think “end-to-end”.
- A belief in relationships as a way of doing business.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of work experience, with 5-7 in brand management or strategic marketing roles
- Masters or MBA qualification strongly preferred
