LOCATION: American Games (Council Bluffs) & International Gamco (Omaha)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position is a full-time permanent position in a manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for assisting in the manufacturing of charitable and lottery gaming products, including pull-tab tickets (break-open tickets) and bingo paper.

The overall scope of this role will include overseeing engineering, maintenance, facilities, and a contributing role to the Environment, Health and Safety functions. This position will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities concerned with the design, selection, installation, modification, and maintenance of equipment, machinery, building and grounds in compliance with state and federal safety and environmental laws and regulations. Supports the achievement of company goals for customer, owner, and employee satisfaction. Oversees a maintenance department. This newly created role will report directly to the Vice President of Operations.

The successful candidate will be part of the key leadership team and will help drive the achievement of company strategic goals. To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a strong practical knowledge of PLC technology as well as a high functioning knowledge of complex manufacturing processes. The successful candidate must be able to function well in a fast-paced environment, possess the ability to work through complex problems with efficiency, and work within a highly functioning team environment.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' experience in the commercial printing industry, and 5 years of supervisory or management experience. Familiarity with the major equipment suppliers to the commercial print and finishing industry is desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with company leadership to assist in the development of facilities planning studies, equipment specifications and layouts, material handling systems, environmental reporting and engineering projects.
  • Support the development of construction specifications or plans.
  • Assemble and analyze contract and equipment bids.
  • Lead the preparation of Capital Expenditure Requests for approval.
  • Direct and oversee the activities of the Maintenance Manager and the maintenance staff.
  • Develop departmental and personnel management action plans which support the strategic direction of the company. Report progress toward goals regularly to VP of Operations.
  • Keep the management team informed of general conditions on matters of importance which could impact quality, cost, safety, or employee morale.
  • Implement and oversee a transparent and accessible Work Order and Preventative Maintenance system to ensure continuously improving Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of all production machinery.
  • Interpret and enforce company policy and safety rules.
  • Prepare and administer Training Initiatives which include developing training programs and planning employee job skills training initiatives. May personally prepare and deliver job skills and safety training.
  • Maintain department morale and employee satisfaction by addressing employee concerns and complaints and facilitate problem resolution.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled employee meetings to communicate operational issues and provide a forum for employee communication.

Procedural / Management System Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement of project management, equipment reliability, and product quality through engineering improvements and strategic maintenance.
  • Develop and implement work instructions and auditing process for Maintenance personnel to standardize procedures and increase productivity.
  • Distribute revised plant or mechanical specifications for equipment as changes are made.
  • Conduct Weekly Work Order review meetings to communicate status of projects/work orders and receive project priority information from department managers.
  • Using Lean principles, modernize maintenance department with emphasis on preventive and predictive maintenance and increasing the availability of printing, finishing, and overall facilities equipment.
  • Develop and manage Engineering and Maintenance department budget including labor, parts, technology utilization, training, utilities, facility and equipment installations and maintenance.
  • Develop, analyze, and report on Engineering and Maintenance department KPI's
  • Develop or revise department procedures and conduct procedural audits to assure compliance with standards. Participates in Process Improvement Teams.

Project Focus Responsibilities

  • Direct contracted projects and equipment installations to assure adherence to specifications.
  • Conduct project commissioning and inspection, as well as establishing operating procedures and base-line reference for future maintenance.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns with operations for engineering and maintenance department projects and liaise with contractors to quickly resolve breakdown emergencies.
  • Maintain industry and vendor contacts to ensure new equipment technology is evaluated for potential efficiency gains and recommend investments as applicable.
  • Manage contracted vendor services which include HVAC, PLC, plumbing, electrical, etc...

OSHA / Safety / Environmental Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. Serves as the primary facility Emergency Response Contingency Plan Coordinator. Maintain the Contingency Plan for emergency response incidents. Ensure preparedness for and prevention of emergency events related to hazardous materials and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Responsible for the Lockout/Tagout program and assures maintenance staff's adherence to program requirements.
  • Working with the Corporate Safety Manager, direct and oversee the activity of the Maintenance Department in regard to compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and development and maintenance of company safety policies and programs.
  • Facilitate scheduled Safety meetings with plant Safety Team.

Facility Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage department budget including labor, parts, technology utilization, training, facility and equipment installations and maintenance.
  • Perform daily facility inspections assessing repairs, and maintenance related needs.
  • Demonstrate success in system planning, facility layout/design and project scope development.

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development, completion, and follow-up of Equipment Condition Reports to ensure compliance to safety, environmental, quality, and performance standards and makes recommendations for modifications or other measures to improve equipment performance, safety and environmental compliance and minimize rework and downtime.
  • Oversee and provide guidance on purchasing of parts and materials for maintenance inventory to assure adequate parts availability to minimize downtime of production equipment.
  • Provide general oversight of the parts purchasing function and performs the parts sourcing and purchasing function for more complex or high priority parts purchasing needs.
  • Act as a technical resource to the Maintenance department and other departments to address and resolve inquiries, problems, and complaints.

PLC / Control Systems Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and repair of PLC's and controls in the factory utilizing individual skill set, plant experts or 3rd party as needed.
  • Identify and implement key machine upgrades, PLC programming upgrades and upgrading of old control technology to PLC controls.
  • Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing and mechanical process equipment, including PLC and control systems.
  • Arrange for training of maintenance staff in PLC's and Electrical systems.
  • Manage PLC upgrades and installation of data acquisition systems interfaced to multi-user IT systems both internally and externally.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required with Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated application of Lean and continuous improvement processes desired and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor and clear mind while handling multiple job-related priorities and responding to varying levels of employee-related issues.
  • Ability to independently follow up on projects and judge when to involve key stakeholders to expedite or troubleshoot problems or projects.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design Systems to produce accurate drawings to document repairs & modifications.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Must possess great oral and written communication skills and have strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to interface and communicate professionally with all levels of management, to include executive level.
  • Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
  • Must be a US Citizen/Green Card Only.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position will oversee the Engineering, Maintenance and Facilities departments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Will be exposed to moving parts and moderate noise levels.
  • Must also have ability to be constantly mobile.

ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is primarily in a Manufacturing Facility where there may be exposure to the following:
  • Some solvent smell, dust, and dirt (solvents used are non-toxic and environmentally friendly)
  • Moderate contact with grease
  • Loud noises (hearing protection is provided

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm (on call to support business as required).
