POSITION SUMMARY:
The Technical Trainer will develop and facilitate the manufacturing training programs at American Highway. This is a unique opportunity to help build a world-class manufacturing training program from the ground up. You will leverage your experience in production operations, adult learning principles, and process optimization to utilize training in support of organizational key performance indicators. A strong sense of ownership and accountability is expected.
Responsibilities of this role include leading and coordinating training schedules, training compliance monitoring, training system improvements, and training and developing needed skills for new and existing employees within the manufacturing team in all American Highway locations. The Technical Trainer supports operations on the floor and is required to engage in quality, compliance, safety and continuous improvement initiatives. Assists in creating and promoting a positive and cohesive team environment, always leading as a positive example in terms of attendance, flexibility, and strong work commitment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with management to identify and prioritize company training needs.
- Schedule appropriate training sessions while minimizing negative interactions with production schedules and priorities
- Oversee and direct workshops, individual and group training sessions, and lectures
- Develops and executes an effective training curriculum for all existing and new employees through all phases of the training program, working closely with operations and office leadership
- Assists in the development and adherence to training budgets
- Create and maintain program documentation (lesson plans, instructor guides, visuals, etc.) to support the overall structured manufacturing training program
- Develop tracking & monitoring systems to document training and that all employees are performing job responsibilities according to training.
- Conducts train the trainer sessions to certify additional hourly personnel (team leads) to as on the job trainers
- Leverages operational KPI’s or other performance data to assess impact of training and revises content (as needed) to continuously improve results.
- Review and update department program documentation and production work instructions as assigned
- Continually evaluates training methodologies inside and outside of the organization to optimize results
- Assists in helping plant managers perform yearly performance reviews
- Assists HR with executing compliance training.
- Willing to perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of machinery and manufacturing processes and procedures: Safety, Quality, Efficiency, etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven experience in training employees in basic operational concepts
- History of challenging the status quo and driving results to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, employee performance, and/or operator safety
- Basic knowledge of Lean and other Continuous Improvement programs
- Effective at multi-tasking and time management
- Ability to recognize and solve moderate to complex problems independently.
- Good computer skills and experience with MS Office Suite products
- Record of good attendance and punctuality
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years of manufacturing operations experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years in a hands-on training role and/or experience in developing or delivering training to operations level employees
- Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in a teaching position.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, manufacturing or related field preferred
- Proven and evident communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the latest corporate training techniques.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Understanding of production process and methodology
- Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Understanding in adult learning principles, instructional design, or education.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires ability to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist, and climb ladders and/or equipment.
- Maximum unassisted lift – 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and requires hearing protection.
· Safety shoes and eye protection are required when working on the shop floor.
· Combination of office and shop floor. If shop floor, temperatures can range from 50 to 110 degrees.
· Travel required at 30%-50% to additional manufacturing facilities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
