Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are:

  • Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys
  • Standards and assessment

AIR’s Education Statistics program area is seeking a Researcher to join the Annual Reports and Information Staff (ARIS) project. The project supports the activities of the NCES Annual Reports and Information Staff Program by providing support for the development, production, and dissemination of high-quality, timely, and reliable statistical reports on educational topics, with relevance to the needs of policy makers, researchers, and the general public. Support for ARIS entails a wide array of activities. The ARIS project has a general requirement for the capability of efficiently compiling, maintaining, and analyzing survey data; writing reports; and making available through publications, the internet and presentations, the information gathered and maintained by National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the U.S. Census Bureau, and other federal and non-federal education data sources. Support for NCES ARIS is organized around major activity areas, such as Condition of Education, Digest of Education Statistics, and Special Studies.

 

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the Unites States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Conduct quantitative analysis using NCES data and data from other statistical agencies
  • Propose analytic strategies and prepare analysis plans
  • Draft tabular, technical, short-format, and indicator reports
  • Understand clients’ needs and requirements and troubleshoot issues/concerns
  • Work in a team environment and supervise junior staff 

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in such fields as education, public policy, economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, public health, or other social science related field or Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient with basic statistics and quantitative research methods
  • Experienced at manipulating and analyzing large data sets

 Skills:

  • Proficient with statistical software packages such as SAS, STATA or R
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational skills

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $85,000 - $115,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
