What are the responsibilities and job description for the Writer position at american petroleum institute?

Craft written content for API’s communications outreach, including published commentary (op-eds and LTEs), speeches, reports, talking points, and presentations, and execute other assignments under supervision of the Director, Executive Writing. Support communications strategy and materials to enhance the organization’s presence and effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researching, writing, editing and updating materials – including op-ed articles, letters to the editor and executive speeches - that cover industry issues, support API’s policy positions and inform the public and state and federal lawmakers and industry opinion leaders.
  • Drafting statements, testimony, talking points and other presentations for senior API executives.
  • Managing e-mail marketing functions, including internal newsletters and e-communications to external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with copywriting and editing daily social media, including planned content as well as ad hoc requests.
  • Addressing rapid response activities related to news articles and editorials on industry priority issues.
  • Providing editorial support for communications department and other departments.
  • Handling special projects as assigned.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION*

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 0 - 3 years of experience in communications or related field.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to write, edit, and proofread correspondence, manuscripts, and other printed materials. Has demonstrated ability to effectively present ideas—both verbally and visually. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels within the organization as well as representatives of other associations and organizations.
  • Organization Skills: Must demonstrate organization skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage limited resources and competing deadlines on a strict timeline.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Command of grammar, spelling, and current affairs. Ability to closely follow a style guide and/or manual. Working knowledge of publishing/editorial processes. Knowledge of e-mail marketing principles and practices.
