Supports local safety functions and assists units in interpreting, developing, implementing, enforcing and monitoring safety management programs as mandated by Federal, state, local and ARC regulations, standards and policies. Serve as professional safety resource to meet critical safety needs while supporting the ARC mission and lowering the cost of risk to the organization. May serve as liaison between field units, regulatory agencies and their representatives, and Headquarters to improve communication, enhance compliance and reduce liability.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements: Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.
Work Conditions: Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response
organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster.

Responsibilities:
- Provides support to assigned units in meeting regulatory compliance mandates under such governmental agencies, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local fire protection agencies. May develop or conduct related training programs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety procedures and adequacy of compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Typically analyzes, reports on, and may collect safety performance, property and casualty, or other loss data. May support implementation of any necessary actions resulting from performance statistics.
- Supports unit management in abating any imminent hazards and develop corrective action plans to prioritize and correct all hazards in a timely manner.
- May provide guidance on or conduct routine audits and assessments for occupational safety, health and environmental management systems including but not limited to OSHA programs, DOT programs, waste management programs, chemical hygiene plans, exposure control plans, PPE management programs and fleet safety programs.
- Typically has unit-specific responsibilities within the scope of the job.
Qualifications
- Education: 4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceSafety or related field Professional Certifications/Licenses CSP, CHCM, ARM or other related
- Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years required
