Summary/Objective
Essential Functions
- Data Management and Analysis: Create and document new variables to expand existing longitudinal survey data set; maintain detailed codebook. Create new codes for analyzing existing qualitative data sets. Develop system for collecting, managing and tracking policy-related data. Conduct multivariate analyses of survey data and assist with analysis of qualitative data to contribute to preparation of manuscripts for publication in scholarly journals and for various formats appropriate for public consumption (e.g. community reports, public testimony, op eds).
- Research, Presentation, and Manuscript Development: Provide support to a team of investigators at AU and collaborating institutions engaged in developing applications for additional grant funding and in preparing presentations and manuscripts based on project related data. This may include such things as conducting and writing up relevant literature searches, preparing power point slides, creating bibliographies/annotated bibliographies, completing relevant application forms, drafting relevant sections of proposals and manuscripts, and contributing to team discussions of new research, presentations and manuscripts.
- Grant Preparation Support and Research Coordination: Participate in weekly research team and bi-weekly reading group meetings; assist with updating project websites; conduct background work and assist with preparation of relevant materials for grant submissions.
- Perform miscellaneous other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a one year, part-time benefit-eligible position; continuation is conditional on acquisition of grant funding.
- 3.1 Sr. Specialist B.
- Exempt.
Salary Range
- $35,805.00/year.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Sociology or closely related field.
- 1-3 years of relavant experience.
- Strong research analytical skills with both quantitative (required) and qualitative (preferred) data.
- Strong skills in office, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
- Strong writing skills (preparation of reports and publications in peer reviewed outlets).
- Ability to supervise part time undergraduate research assistants.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and remain on deadline.
- Familiarity with some or all of the following research topics: housing, criminal legal system, substance use, mental health, sexually transmitted infections, and health inequities.
- Experience with statistical software for analyzing survey data and/or experience using NVivo for analyzing qualitative data.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience with software for developing surveys (e.g. Qualtrics).
- Experience with a reference management software (e.g. EndNote).
