POSITION SUMMARY
The Construction Project Cost Controller position is fully accountable for monitoring the financial life cycle of construction projects from the bidding process to conclusion. The Cost Controller has in-depth knowledge of construction accounting including billing, processing of payment applications and project reporting of actual spend to budget. This professional will be responsible to make sure that the figures reported in the monthly cost control are accurate and reflect the reality of the project by providing reliable information for use by project management. The position report to the Regional Controller and is based on the construction site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall operational financial and reporting aspects for various large infrastructure & commercial construction projects
- Responsible to incur the cost of goods, rentals, labor and sub-contractor for company projects
- Analyze and understand of any gap (improvement or discrepancy) between the budget and the costs
- Process subcontractor payment applications (G702 and G703) verifying document requirements
(licensing, insurance, W-9’s, lien releases), contract amounts and subcontract terms
- Work with Project Manager to ensure the budget and change orders are accurate to ensure
efficient billing process.
- Responsible for verifying monthly actuals against the budget and coordinating accurate and timely billing with the Project Manager according to contract requirements.
- Provide effective verbal and written correspondence to Project Manager, Subs and suppliers on
financial issues to ensure any obstacle or issues are resolved timely.
- Participate in project status meetings and provide cost reviews and other financial reporting in
support of the project.
- Perform various specialized accounting functions of moderate complexity and ensure that
procedures and practices are followed in accordance with company policy, generally accepted
accounting principles and contractual obligations.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Civil Engineering, or equivalent)
- Minimum 4 years of Cost Control or Accounting experience required
- Experience working on ERP SAP software (ECC & BW) is a plus
- Experience working on a Production Management software is a plus (Procore, ProjectSight)
- Demonstrable experience for construction projects preferred
- Candidate must be able to adapt to a multi-cultural work environment
- Advanced knowledge of Excel is a must
- Effective problem solving and analytical skills
- Flexible to work overtime when needed
