The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities. Member Duties : Develop a marketing plan to disseminate timely information about Community Youth Development's programs and deadlines. Register youth for participation in the Teen Summit. Assist with coordination and implementation of the Summer Recreation Camp, an opportunity for low-income youth to participate in a free summer camp at schools in the 78744 ZIP code. Support program staff with coordination of schedules, field trips, program events, documentation, filing and organizing student paperwork, and supply purchases. Document the Summer Recreation Camp to share its successes with current and future stakeholders. Support the students through mentorship and leadership. Participate in program and community events to promote Community Youth Development programs to students and the community. Create and distribute surveys regarding program knowledge and how to improve community participation in Community Youth Development programming.
