SUMMARY
The HR Representative at Altra Industrial Motion’s Ameridrives International manufacturing facility in San Marcos, TX, is responsible for administrative and generalist support consistent with established policies, procedures, and Corporate/Division direction. Primary focus will be in some or all of the following functional areas: HRIS, payroll and time & attendance, benefits, regulatory compliance, recruiting, employee relations, employee engagement, safety, training, records management, and hospitality and general facility services.
The position is broad in scope and the successful incumbent will be energized by a hands-on role, be highly productive, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with a variety of tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and/or lead full-cycle recruitment activities for hourly production positions with the goal of hiring and retaining top talent. This includes writing and/or updating job descriptions, sourcing/screening/interviewing candidates, administering assessments, extending employment offers, executing all pre-employment activities (background verifications, drug screens, pre-employment physicals, I-9’s, eVerify, etc.), and onboarding activities to include new hire orientation. It may also include coordinating and managing any temporary workforce and third-party staffing vendors.
- Manage the off-boarding process to include conducting exit interviews for hourly (and some salaried) employees, preparing separation documents, and executing required termination actions.
- Assist with employee engagement initiatives with the objective of improved employee satisfaction which leads to higher productivity and retention. This includes supporting pre- and post-actions for the annual Employee Engagement Survey, and may also include coordinating social/company events, employee appreciation activities, recognition programs, etc.
- Assist with employee relations issues to include policy interpretation and administration; conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations; and advising/supporting management on appropriate actions such as employee coaching, delivering feedback, and administering corrective action.
- Maintain employee data in various HR systems (with a high level of accuracy and integrity) to include personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for government and internal reporting.
- Prepare bi-monthly salaried and weekly hourly payroll, to include time & attendance, finalizing reports for Finance, and submitting to Corporate Payroll for processing.
- Administer and manage all aspects of employee leaves of absences relative to FMLA, ADA, worker’s compensation, etc., including thorough documentation, compliance with Corporate and federal policies and regulations, timely follow up, and return to work processes.
- Lead Open Enrollment and wellness program activities, including related communication sessions, and advising employees regarding eligibility and coverage for health and benefit programs.
- Assist with HR compliance efforts that meet Corporate policy as well as state and federal regulations. This also includes contributing to data submission and actions related to Boston Gear’s Affirmative Action Plan and supporting ITAR and safety compliance for both visitors and employees.
- Actively support Boston Gear’s Safety initiatives, to include attendance at monthly safety meetings, participating in reenactments and assisting with the reporting process for all incidents, OSHA, and Workers Compensation claims. Monitor and proactively manage workers compensation cases to control costs and ensure timely closure of claims.
- Generate related HR reports and ensure timely updates of data for Corporate, Division and local Core Value Driver (CVD’s) metrics to include but not limited to Safety, Turnover, Engagement, headcount, etc. Collaborate with HR Manager on analyzing results and identifying improvement opportunities and actions.
- Resolve employee relations issues to include conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations and advising/supporting management on appropriate actions such as employee coaching, delivering feedback, and administering corrective action.
- Manage internal communication initiatives to include, but not limited to closed-circuit TV (CCTV) updates, bulletin boards, and self-service forms center.
- Responsible for general HR administrative and transactional tasks to include records retention; integrity of employee personnel files and records; safety PPE benefits; employee and visitor badges; uniform program; onsite catering for training events and meetings; mail and document shredding services; and ensuring an attractive and clean environment in common areas frequented by employees, customers, and general visitors.

- Willing and able to occasionally travel domestically to other Altra sites in North America, as well as attendance at off-site meetings/events and professional development conferences or seminars.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelors degree is required, preferably with a concentration in Human Resources or related field.
- 2 or more years of HR administrative or generalist experience in a fast-paced human resources department is required. Exposure to multiple HR functional areas and experience working in a manufacturing production environment is highly preferred.
- Prior experience with processing payroll and maintaining an HRIS system is strongly desired. Experience with implementation of an HR system is beneficial.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of time is in a general office environment, but frequent time will also be spent in a manufacturing production environment where personal protective safety equipment must be worn and proper safety precautions must be observed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to: frequent sitting and occasional bending and stooping. Potential sensory demands include, but are not limited to: hearing and seeing. Must be able to work in a typical manufacturing facility and travel domestically to other facilities which could entail walking, climbing and moving around working equipment.
