Lead System Engineer

This is a hybrid role working partially in-office and partially from home.

This position is responsible for performing support on all server-related operations and issues. With little to no guidance or supervision, the incumbent will participate in the implementation efforts for various infrastructure projects; providing consulting, problem identification and resolution, system installation and configuration, application support, and needs analysis to support the use of technology. Additionally, the incumbent researches new technologies and leverages optimization techniques to ensure that systems operate efficiently.

Drive efficiencies for the business through the advancement and delivery of Server and Storage platforms and applications. Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently, but also as part of a team. Work in areas including enterprise storage, platform management (physical & virtual), virtualization, backups and recovery, cloud and SaaS services administration, and ensuring security compliance for all distributed systems.

What you do

• Performs complex troubleshooting, system upgrades, or maintenance tasks with little to no guidance and/or documentation.
• Responsibility over the system engineering process for NetApp Enterprise Storage systems and replication as well as backup and recovery operations and support using Veeam and Dell PowerVault technologies.
• Responsibility for system engineering process for multiple operating systems and hypervisors including Microsoft Windows Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Nutanix Acropolis platforms, and optimizing them for scalability, redundancy, performance, security, and data protection.
• Identify and escalate issues to technology partners and manufacturers.
• Utilize available tools such as Microsoft’s System Center Suite, Active Directory/GPMC, RedHat Satellite, VMware vSphere, Cygna Auditor for AD, Adaxes, AdminDroid, among others, to perform complex hardware and software maintenance tasks and troubleshooting.
• Contributes to the tuning of system configurations while documenting procedures and guidelines for internal team use.
• Provides subject matter expertise for one or more technologies or processes. Develop, publish, and manage Infrastructure and Operations policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
• Contributes to the technical direction of the organization including strategic roadmap, annual budget, and team development. Evaluate and advance the standards for operating system and hypervisor configuration templates, following industry standards such as CIS and/or DISA STIGS.
• Works closely with the Audit and Security teams to address outstanding items and prioritize remediation tasks.
• Respond to client incidents and requests using the corporate ticketing system along with responding to alerts and emergency calls during and outside of normal business hours.
• Serves as a technical project manager to coordinate simple and/or short duration initiatives.
• Evaluate newly introduced and emerging Server and Storage technologies for their potential introduction into Ameritas’ technology footprint. Contribute to the annual budget process by documenting technical justification for items aligning to the IT roadmap and general review of budget baselines.

What you bring

• 3-5 years of professional experience in the information technology field required
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• 3 years of experience with remediating vulnerabilities, NetApp SAN Management and Support, RHEL System Hardening/Configuration management and support, and VMware and Hyper-V management and support required
• Experience with Veeam Backup, PowerVault Storage Management, AWS/Azure Cloud Services, all desired
• Experience with Policy/Procedure development/management desired
