The Operations Manager position focuses on the daily operations for their business. An experienced operations leader will drive daily management and maintain a keen focus on process control and improvement. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for coaching supervisors & technicians, while driving key business metrics. This role will focus on creating/maintaining clear roles and responsibilities for their team members, establishing standardized work, and training the work force. This individual must possess a willingness and desire to work directly with his/her peers (and their direct reports) in the business units to define and set a strategy for operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilies:
- Oversee the order to delivery manufacturing process to ensure that our safety, customer, quality, profitability, and employee commitments are consistently met.
- Responsible for coordinating the flow of work between departments, while ensuring our customers’ quality and delivery needs are met.
- Communicate with other functional/departmental leaders to understand all necessary aspects and needs of operational development and to ensure they are fully informed of operational objectives, purposes, and achievements.
- Maintain all aspects of the workflow to ensure system transactions and controls are properly administered.
- Maximize efficiency through the design and implementation of improved manufacturing strategies and allocate assets and resources to meet quality, safety, cost, delivery, volume, and productivity goals.
- Benchmark and establish performance metrics, collect, and report results.
- Coordinate with sales on item availability and help set product lead times.
- Help create annual production forecast (Sales Demand, Employee Headcount, Project Savings)
- Control and coordinate the receipt, movement, storage, and shipment of MRO/OEM products throughout the entire value stream.
- Drive continuous improvement by leading department efforts to improve plant efficiency and continually improving the use of labor and materials through the implementation of the Ametek Lean Implementation Road Map.
- Identify associate training needs, facilitate, and actively participate in appropriate Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen tools and projects.
- Work with senior management to continually improve the business unit processes, facilitate the introduction of new products, and increase organizational efficiency.
- Select and develop team members, lead teams through complex issues, ensure performance expectations of team are met, drive decision making to resolution.
- In cooperation with other plant and corporate management, coordinate the approved plans for plant growth and development, inform the Business Manager and others concerned on progress being made in comparison with established objectives, budgets, and schedules for various programs and projects.
- This individual ensures that personnel are trained and qualified in accordance with Midwest MRO FAA approved Training Program.
- Responsible for participation in the development and implementation of the repair and overhaul strategy and readiness to support current and future business objectives.
- Preparation and presentation of strategic plans in support of long-range/short range objectives, organization, establish budgets and strategies, event timetables, policies, capital requirements, material, and labor requirements.

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering (Mechanical/Manufacturing) discipline.
- Master’s degree in operations/Industrial Management and/or Lean Operations preferred
Experience:
- Candidates must come from a service-based industry that embraces TPS, Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma strategies.
- Individuals must have been successful in leadership roles that might include Plant Management, Operations Management/Supervision, Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering, and/or Supply Chain Management. Most importantly, they must be ready for the next significant promotion, which might not be available at their present company and must be comfortable in a highly matrixed environment.
- At least 5-10 years of experience in similar role with a history of responsible career progression
- Demonstrated history of successful change implementation and implementing of operational excellence improvements such as lean manufacturing, demand flow, six sigma, tooling equivalency and compressive regulatory and quality improvement programs.
- Strong communications, interpersonal, leadership, & organizational skills.
- Familiar with manufacturing machining, test and calibration environment.

Typical Working Conditions:

- Work will be conducted mostly indoors in a “shop” type environment.
- Exposure to heat or cold will mostly be limited to when walking from one building to another or if bay doors have been opened to allow for shipping and receiving activities. The use of PPE such as safety glasses and safety toed shoes are required in designated working areas.
