What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Operator position at Ametek?

SUMMARY:

Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal such as galvanized iron, copper, steel, or aluminum, or nonmetallic material such as plastics or fiberglass, according to product specifications.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or uses templates.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
  • Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form.
  • Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces.
  • Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products.
  • Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints.
  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.
  • Repairs and maintains sheet metal products.
  • Operates computer aided drafting (CAD) equipment to develop scale drawings of product or system.

Performs other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

  • Ability to work overtime when needed with short notice REQUIRED. 
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to follow workplace safety standards and company policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to work in a team setting and contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.

 

EDUCATION: Minimum high school diploma or general education degree GED. 

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents. Must possess excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, in English.  Have the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, colleagues and members of the business community when required.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic computer skills including navigation of on-line file systems and file management.   

 

MATHMATICAL SKILLS: Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, measurements, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define basic problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to work with small parts.   Work is typically performed at a variety of locations within the department (which includes walking or standing some of the time).
